According to an in-game tracker, Diablo 4's third season will kick off on January 23, right when the Season of Blood ends. Strangely, with less than two weeks until kick-off, we're yet to hear anything about it from Blizzard, let alone have a name to put to it.

Update:
Blizzard has now announced that Diablo IV: Season 3 will be revealed on January 16, two days before the Developer Direct from Xbox, which we initially speculated would be where the announcement would be shown. In a post on X, Blizzard says: "Unimaginable arcane power stirs... A new season looms, learn more on January 16."

Original story:
The in-game tracker, which previously said that "Season of Blood ends January 23, 2024" on the log-in screen, has now been changed, revealing that the "Next season begins January 23, 2024." The move is a surprising one, as we could be playing the new content in less than two weeks time — and we don't even know what it is yet!

Blizzard has revealed the start date for Diablo 4's third season

For both Seasons One and Two, Blizzard has previously begun dropping details about the upcoming adventurers, including the Season's name, theme, new gameplay mechanics, and the like, months before the start date, but things are eerily quiet at the moment.

The lack of Campfire Chats or hype posts on social media from Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson could be a change in strategy, or even a by-product of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which finally got the go-ahead last year.

Earlier this week, after a heavy round of rumors, Microsoft revealed that it is hosting a Developer Direct next week to give us a chance to see many of its first-party games, including Avowed and Indiana Jones. The company has said that we shouldn't expect to see anything from Activision Blizzard during the show, but with such a short time before Diablo 4's third season is supposed to begin, we do wonder if Blizzard will surprise us with a reveal at the event.

The Developer Direct arrives on January 18, five days before the start of Season 3. Will we get a reveal? We hope so!
