Xbox sales: TA Team Picks (July 1)

By Tom West,

Microsoft is once again holding a number of sales on the Xbox Store, discounting console and PC games. Here are the TrueAchievements news team's top picks.

Here we are enjoying yet another wonderful weekend, and as such, the TrueAchievements news team is here to share our top picks from this week's Xbox sales. Currently, the Xbox Store is holding the Visually Stimulating and Achievement Hunter sales, knocking down prices on games and DLC across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Here's what we think would make great additions to your library.

Discounts from the bargain bin

Heidi

Heidi — Röki

I’ve enthusiastically recommended Röki before, and as it’s now at its lowest price yet (under $5/£5) I’m doing so again! Röki was absolutely gorgeous — it was one I’d had on my list for a while, wanting to try it but wondering what sort of sale to wait for, and it turned out to be such a great game. Röki is inspired by Scandinavian folklore, and we play as Tove, who has to set out into a world full of myth and magic in order to rescue her brother. Beautiful as it is, Röki also delves into the darker side of such tales, and there is as much of grief and fear in Röki as there are more light-hearted moments of humor and discovery. Tove is a great character — resilient and resourceful, and utterly determined to triumph in the end. The gameplay keeps you busy solving puzzles, exploring new areas, collecting “curiosities” for Tove’s journal, and discovering the strange and mysterious denizens of this world of folklore. There are a fair few missable achievements to watch out for, and it’d be a good idea to check the individual achievement guides we have here on TrueAchievements — especially for the Badge Master achievement — but Röki is a wonderful game. At 75% off, it’s a bargain.

Sean

Sean — The Artful Escape

If you missed the superb The Artful Escape when it was in Xbox Game Pass, now is the time to pick it up, as it’s currently the cheapest it's ever been at $9.99 / £8.37 / €9.99. An excellent game from Annapurna, The Artful Escape sees you step into the shoes of Francis Vendettti, a teenage guitar prodigy who sets out on an intergalactic journey to find his stage persona and escape the shadow of a dead folk legend. The Artful Escape is all about the story and the ride it takes you on. While it is light on actual gameplay elements, the game’s narrative chops, excellent visuals, intriguing world, face-melting guitar solos, and superb voice acting from a star-studded cast will easily see you through its short playtime. The Artful Escape was one of my favorite games of 2021, and I think it really needs to be experienced in one sitting, so if you do pick this one up, make sure you have around four hours free. In that time, you’ll also bag yourself an easy 1,000 Gamerscore. Not bad, hey!

The Artful Escape

On the eve of his first performance, Francis Vendetti battles with the legacy of a dead folk legend and the cosmic wanderings of his own imagination. Francis, a teenage guitar prodigy, sets out on a psychedelic, multidimensional journey to inspire his stage persona.

Tom

Tom — Chivalry 2

Although Chivalry 2 is currently available in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, it's probably safe to say that it won't always be there, so I'm giving it a shoutout this week. Why, do I hear you ask? Because it's bonkers and chaotic fun. Tripwire gives you the ability to customize your own knight and battle it out with an enemy team of players in first-person hack-and-slash gameplay. Timing your blocks and swings to outmanoeuvre your enemy, or taking up a position just outside of a fight with your bow to pick off stragglers is super rewarding. Each battle sees one team attempt to complete a number of objectives as they make their way through the map, such as looting treasure, disabling trebuchets, and sieging castles, while the opposing team attempts to stop them. Speaking of trebuchets, you can fire yourself across the map from one, or do a number of other amusing things like charge into a fight while carrying a chicken... because why not? You can pick up the Special Edition this week for $24.99 / £20.87 / €24.99, which comes with some additional cosmetic items and in-game currency. If the extra items don't appeal to you, the standard edition is also on sale for $19.99 / £16.74 / €19.99. I think it's a great game, especially when you play with a friend or two. Give it a try and see what antics you can get up to!

This week's Xbox sales have also seen 45 quick completion games drop in price, so it could be worth checking those out if you fancy giving your Gamerscore a quick boost.
