Heidi

Heidi — Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb was one of my standout games of last year. There aren’t many games that so joyfully mix the cute and the creepy — the cozy decorations and the cultist demonstrations — and do it so well as Cult of the Lamb. The game starts off with the end of your character’s life — almost. You’re rescued by a mysterious stranger who says you need to repay them by building a cult in their name. This translates into you venturing out to do runs to find new followers, defeat enemies, and gather resources, while also making sure to return to your base to tend to your followers, give sermons, perform rituals, cook meals, build necessities, decorate, and scoop poop. A lot of poop. Most of the job at first is cleaning up after your followers, who will let you know they need bathrooms by going everywhere else until you build some. It’s a ridiculously fun, ridiculously silly game with a gorgeous art style and an irresistible gameplay loop. I thought it was more than worth the full price, so it’s definitely a bargain at 35% off.

Sean — Metro Saga Bundle

I know I’ve written about Metro a fair few times on here, but the Metro Saga Bundle at its current price of just $8.99 / £7.49 / €8.99 is, without a doubt, the best bargain of the Xbox Deals Unlocked sale. For less than the cost of a pint in some London pubs (criminal, I know), you get all three Metro games — Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, Metro Exodus — and two expansions for Exodus. Set in the tunnels of Moscow’s metro system after a nuclear bomb hits the city, the first two Metro games ooze atmosphere and are some of the best single-player first-person shooter games around. They’re creepy, action-packed, and have engaging storylines and interesting characters that will pull you through the inky blackness of the crumbling, mutant-infested metro tunnels until the end. The third game, Exodus, opens up the world of Metro and allows you to explore large sandboxes instead of forcing you to scurry around underground. Some say that Exodus loses a bit of the charm the series is known for for that reason, and while I do agree, it’s still a fantastic experience that stands on its own. I am yet to play the Exodus expansions, Sam’s Story and The Two Colonels, but I have only heard good things about them. If you’re to buy one thing from this sale, this bundle has to be it. It’s so much better than the overpriced London pint, I assure you.

Tom — Evil Dead: The Game

This week I'm showing some love to Evil Dead: The Game because I love the franchise and I've regretfully spent less time than I would like in this awesome game. Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetrical co-op survival game that tasks a team of four survivors with escaping a demon and its army of Deadites in a bunch of familiar locations from the movies. Each of the Survivors is a character from Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs Evil Dead, and you can mix and match your team to have a cast spanning each franchise entry if you like. As for gameplay, it's a third-person shooter that tasks the survivors with gathering weapons and leveling up their abilities when exploring semi-open world environments, locating lost pages of the Necronomicon, collecting the Kandarian Dagger, and finally defeating a Dark One to seal the breach between worlds. The player on the demon side has the fun job of possessing a variety of objects and survivors, summoning minions, or outright attacking the survivors to kill them off one by one. It's a ton of fun to play with friends or solo, and right now you can pick it up for $20.09 / £16.74 / €20.09, which is a fantastic price for the fun that's waiting for you. For a little bit extra, you can pick up the Game of the Year Edition, but it only includes additional cosmetics, so it might not be worth it for some. Go give Evil Dead: The Game a play, it's groovy!
