Here is the top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending January 7, 2024.

Despite the barrage of games we get during the holiday period, it's still the usual suspects for most of the top ten. Fortnite is in first, with Call of Duty in second and GTA V in third. The first big change is Hell Let Loose, which makes its debut appearance in the top 40 at ninth after joining Game Pass last week. It booted The Finals down to tenth, and there's a little wave of games falling down the chart to make room for this new appearance. Baldur's Gate 3 has slipped down a spot to 15th. It had jumped up quite a bit in last week's chart — perhaps this change is due to more players having to put down such a hefty RPG now that we're out of the holiday period.

Aside from a few games holding steady, such as Sea of Thieves sticking at 25th, it's a wave of falling games until we get to PUBG, which has climbed up from 29th to 27th. Battlefield 2042 is up three spaces to 30th, while Elden Ring has jumped up five spots to 32nd. It's not such great news for Diablo IV, which has fallen five spots to 35th, while Black Ops III and Warframe have dropped to 36th and 37th respectively.

This week's second new appearance is Pixel Strike 3D, which has just made it into the top 40 at 38th. It arrived in late December and is free, which might explain its appearance this week, but there are a formidable five unobtainable Pixel Strike 3D achievements to watch out for — in other words, half of the game's achievement list. Just below, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition has just managed to climb back into the chart at 39th.

Looking ahead, we have big launches like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown coming up, as well as everything coming to Game Pass in January, like Turnip Boy Robs a Bank.
