GTA 6 will reportedly offer story DLC

All this cynicism and skepticism and technically the game STILL isn’t announced aside from Rockstar’s acknowledgement they were making a new GTA (which might not even be GTA 6, you’re all just - probably rightfully but still - assuming); everything we’ve heard since have been leaks or reports which may not even be true. And while I realise Tez is known in GTA circles and so is probably credible, and that Schreier absolutely is legit, at the end of the day any of this “information” still remains unconfirmed.

But pointing that out doesn’t matter because all of you have already made your minds up when you haven’t even seen the game yet.

Since you’re all so well informed can you tell me how Elder Scrolls 6 will be please?
Or perhaps you can provide some factual evidence for why people are so wrong to be cynical? Their recent history ie the last 9 years doesn't offer any indication to believe it.

2 huge releases, 2 re-releases of 1 of them, giving the trilogy that made them arguably the most beloved developers in gaming to a team that couldn't handle it and letting them butcher 3 of their greatest creations, and 0 story DLC's with almost complete attention focused on the online portions for both those 2 big releases.

None of that suggests anyone is wrong to be in the 'yeah sure whatever you say.....' camp at the moment.

This is a joke article right? Cause it reads like one. Hey rockstar is saying they’re going to do this, like how they did for V, but for realsies this time. It keeps tossing back to V yet absolutely nothing they said then came to be so not quite sure how this is supposed to be reassuring 🤣

As usual, we knew that many new games will offer you the cut-off story content with a full price, and then offer you an over-priced DLC with a "supplementary" content for the story. warning

What I think will happen is that the game will be designed around multi player and there will be a payed story mode dlc. Unlike gta v, you will not get a complete story at launch, just chapter 1 of the various dlc.

Seriously doubt it. They made disgusting amounts of money from GTA online why would they go back to they’re previous model of single player dlc. I’ll take single player dlc over multiplayer 9 times out of 10 but I seriously doubt they’ll do it

Always a good sign to talk about story DLC well before the game is released roll

After GTA 5 & RDR 2, I'm not falling for it again. Call Rockstar Lucy because we're about to get Charlie Brown'd.

They better! I was really disappointed that no story DLC was released for either GTA V or RDR 2. I don't care about the online aspects of those games at all

"Had to streamline development" from a fairly ambitious plan means "Why put in the effort" when we can go whale hunting instead.

Here is hoping the story dlc is free. "Why would it be free?"

Oh you know, because if the game is years out from release and it seems highly likely to already have story dlc for it...why is it not included with the game?

Ultimately, the money they could draw from getting more people just to be on the game and making purchases of shark cards would be more valuable than charging $20 for the expansion itself.
I get your point but the reluctance of gamers to accept any price point higher than $60.00 for going on 15-20 years is leading these companies to find alternative methods to make money.

Cost of other era games in 2020 dollars:
    Nintendo: 108.18
    Super Nintendo: 118.73
    Playstation: 84.85
    N64: 82.42
    PS2: 75.09
    Xbox: 73.06
    X360: 79.46
    X1: 66.61

Price just keeps dropping despite inflation making the dollar worth less. So to our detriment they found that they could abuse microtransactions and boy did they hit the jackpot there. Don't even get me started on multiplayer.

So maybe, just maybe if we accept higher price points for single player based content in conjunction with historical video game prices, we will get full/complete games instead of this piece meal bullcrap.

But no, we will keep complaining that GTA 6 comes with DLC that amounts to paying that price anyway and claiming we are getting ripped off.
But sales figures have kept increasing and the profit keeps increasing so it makes sense for the game prices to drop (in terms of modern £/$).

Also, I'd say that games these days are simply worth less than older games since you could buy gen 1-7 games and keep them forever. Modern games can only be used while Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo/etc allow you to use them, or until they go bust.

Profit keeps increasing because of the aforementioned microtransaction boom that we got ourselves into. Development costs also increased exponentially. There is little doubt that $60 dollar games with these types of costs aren't sustainable if you factor in the risk of the game not being a smash hit. So they stop taking that risk and focus on what makes money - microtransactions.
