True, even if the source isn't leaked (yet), who has it can study it to develop cheats/hacks for any current/future game based on the same network code

So hacker, or an upset fool from the inside goes and ruins everything for everyone. Gotta love the internet.

I thought GTA 6 was taking place in a pseudo-London. I'm glad it's not after all.

If anything, this is just free marketing for the game. I doubt it's a nightmare at all.

Haha, that's exactly what went though my mind while watching it.

    Actually looks quite promising.

    Is It, though?

There are already people on here and reddit that don't seem to realise how game dev works, and they are all 'looks crap'

Being able to control the impression of your game is much much more important than 'free marketing'.

Leakers are just clout-chasing idiots. This dude is in-over-his-head, though. No doubt that Take-Two/Rockstar got the lawyers ready on this one.

It seems like this was a side effect of working from home. Systems are a tad more vulnerable to hackers if you know where to look. ESPECIALLY with how rotten home routers can be.

Shit like these articles make me think it was no particular bad actor at Rockstar, it was an honest, multifaceted mistake. https://therecord.media/botnet-abuses-tp-link-routers-for-ye...

Probably some junior developer. Good luck finding another job like this once they identify you.

I think that this is "the leak" of the century, hahahaha
I had no hope in this GTA with a story like the new saints, with no acid jokes and more gen z friendly but i've watched "that" video, looks real and has a few game debugs/test and is a unfinished product, people says that was a source from 2019, so...is beta and is not the final version, is not "the end" to rockstar but is a huge reveal, is still in time to fix and update, re-create the ending, update the story...And in my opnion was a developer of the company or a person closer to one of the workers, maybe was a remote attack like ShadowRaven9 says, I'am not a web expert but this hardware protocol of SMS maybe could be the issue (interesting article) but i still think that was a developer internal mistake to got the game leaked.

"One of the biggest leaks"... compared to say, the entire HL2 source code getting leaked? All we get is some pre-release videoes? nah, not even top 5.

Apparently he also got the source code from GTA V and VI... that's a pretty big deal.

This guy just wants attention now. His ego is on display for all to point and laugh. All of this bullshit for nothing. Why do these hackers think they will get their money? Your being watched and tracked whatever you do. No matter what your actions will pay major consequences and it has. Over what? I pity the developers at Rockstar. Executives had this coming but this hacker did this for NOTHING

I actually think it's a shame that it isn't. We get the same locations reimagined over and over again it seems. Would have loved London or Anywhere City from GTA2, which could be completely fictitious and more creative.

Some people are talking about this as if it were beta footage. Not at all. It's developers working on pre-release materials. This stuff may not even be from a fully playable version of the game. It's interesting, but it's not something you should even consider using to judge the final product in any way. I know a lot of times betas are similar to the final product, but that's not this. On the other hand, the game will probably be an all-time bestseller no matter what happens, so maybe it doesn't matter that people get the wrong impression.

I'll never understand how companies who want to keep stuff secret put it on the internet, I've been saying this for decades. Why hasn't anybody tried just not putting stuff on the internet until it's ready to be released?
Many companies, especially since the covid, allow remote work. And even without remote, you need to somehow send for example footages from testing to the devs. I don't think that there is a single medium or big IT company without issue tracker.
Internal systems should be properly secured. However even with proper configuration there are still people - the most prone to errors component.
