Agree with the list, except for MGS, which is crap IMO

Valhalla was just too big, so we're giving this slot to Odyssey.
I thought Odyssey was bigger than Valhalla. :o

Funny I also thought that. But maybe just after hearing so often how large Valhalla is, I was expecting something larger.

    Shenmue 1 felt epic.

Back when an open world was 3 or 4 areas of a town.

So basically...it's all the best games available on Xbox.
The 80s had the best music. The 90s had the best movies. The 2000s had the best games. What do you have to offer?

Maybe Valhalla was bigger on a geographic scale (I'm speculating) but Odyssey seemed to have oodles more to do in it, and a lot more to do before it started to feel oppressively repetitive.

Odyssey had way more water, which took ages to sail across.

But you had the Mediterranean Maritime All-male Choir to serenade you as you sailed.

If you take out GTA5, MGS5, RDR2, Flight Sim and Odyssey, this is really a list of “Best RPGs” which by their nature are open worlds. Only GTA5, MGS5, RDR2, and Odyssey are truely an Open World game first, with other elements second. Flight Sim is a flight sim.

My point is that all the other open world games will never make a best of RPG, FPS, TPS, Flight Sim, Action Adventure, or any other type of top 10, so should be on this list instead. At least FH5 has been knocked off this list.

Totally agree. Odyssey was packed with historical and mythological characters and places to discover and interact with, beyond those in the main storyline. The areas in Odyssey felt more distinct than repetitive.

Playing through Elden Ring and as a souls veteran I cannot state enough how stunning this game is in every way. Its moved into my favourite top 5 of all time.
