I started with RE5 and was blown away by the co-op aspect when I first played it. I hadn't played anything like it before
and to this date, tbh. for some reason, RE5 even 14 years later still remains as best coop action shooter. frankly, other coop shooters lack of actual cooperation and dependency on each other. mostly feels like single player designed games but you playing with 2-3-4... whatever. but unless it had stealth/puzzle elements, ofc. or even some scripted events, with forced cooperation. but action side overall usally feel self-sufficient. probably l4d was closest thing, but that was more about horde control

Awesome article! more of this kinda summary please!

Outbreak 1 & 2 were very fun, hopefully Capcom try reviving them in the future. Recently MP just sucked... no matter how many times they would make brand new online versus games, none went well. Afterall RE is a single player experience, better try cooperative next time instead of versus
Was waiting for someone to comment about Outbreak 1-2 until you. I thought the same thing…I don’t get why Capcom not bother to remake or ground Outbreak 1-2 from start for online 4 players coop survival game.
I wonders Valve took a Outbreak model and turns into Left 4 Dead.

I 100% agree...RE5 is still some of the most fun I've had playing a co-op game. Had to actually work together to get the job done. If you are looking for other great co-op games try Dead Space 3 and Splinter Cell: Conviction if you haven't. Both older games but still fun. Dead Space 3 overall has a bad rep but its a really fun game. Maybe because I knew what to expect going in.

Is Code Veronica X included in the Code Veronica numbers? A lot of us got that one because a)it wasn't on dreamcast and b) it had a bitchin' demo of the yet to be released Devil May Cry...
Yes, Code Veronica number includes DC and PS2 versions, just not the 360/PS3 ports.
X had a GameCube release too.

yeah, i played Conviction and Blacklist, both are top fun stealth type games. Dead Space 3 fun in coop too, but like RE6 have some valid problems.

isnt Outbreak 1-2 running on same engine as RE0 and RE1 remake? i dont get why it was so hard to port them on actual platforms, as well...

Good question! Glad you asked. To answer your question, nope. It was called Outbreak Engine. First game developed with Outbreak Engine was Clock Tower 3 (2002) along with Resident Evil: Outbreak Files#1 in 2003. Later on, RE: Outbreak Files #2 and Haunting Ground developed the same way with Outbreak Engine.

So, Outbreak Engine by Capcom made with 4 games to this date. All 4 games' gameplay functioning pretty much SAME.

    Clock Tower 3
    RE Outbreak 1
    RE Outbreak 2
    Haunting Ground

Yea they aren't perfect but fun with a friend. Army of Two games are also fun co-op but I have a feeling they might feel a little outdated at this point lol. I played the Original Army of Two and Devil's Cartel in co-op and they were both enjoyable.

you know, i kinda feel stupid now cus for some reason it didnt come in my mind that Outbreak 1-2 were PS2 exclusives while RE0-1 were Gamecube ex.

anyway, saddest thing that even with playable emulators Outbreak 1-2 dont make sense without online coop...

isnt it impossible to play online coop in Army of Two, now, though?

That is a possibility. I haven't played Army of Two in many years with no plans to go back to them lol
