Umm people have different views. All re7-8 did was copy/paste the current trend at the time and didn't evolve. RE2 original and the RE1 remake 'evolved' without sacrificing what made the original great. RE has gone so far from it's roots that now mostly unrecognisable and then people get confused why the live action movies/shows ignore the main canon. For me I saw RE decline with 5/6 and was confused with RE3.5/RE4 but for me personally RE7-8 was the final nail in the series. I understand the concept of 'spin-offs' but the problem is I no longer enjoy the direction that Capcom is going with the series. I'm looking forward to the 2nd remake in the series with RE4 coming out next year but the thing is I don't feel like Capcom even cares about classic fans. The non-remakes of RE2 reimagining was decent but wish we had a proper remake and would have loved a remaster of the original RE2/3 if it existed but sadly only thing that exists is the RE2/3 HD fan mod projects.
I think it's a testament to the early Resident Evil games that those of us who really enjoyed them have so many varied opinions as to what made the franchise fun in the first place. I started with RE2 on ye old N64 and wouldn't change that game for the world. I thought RE4 was a great leap forward in a franchise that was stagnating hard. In the wake of PT's cancelation, I thought 7 was a creative variation on the franchise. I'm glad Capcom is willing to experiment, even if the results don't always appeal to everyone.

With the Resident Evil IP still having tremendous weight in the gaming world, I'll look forward to what next entries they deliver us.
    Shields high.
