What do you mean? They are abandoning RDR2's MP, for GTA's MP. This has nothing to do with SP at all.

As much as I hate it, SP content doesn't make them billions a year. GTA Online does.
"Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series — understanding more than ever the need to exceed players' expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be," Rockstar said. "As a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online."
It literally says dev resources for the next entry laugh
I'm not sure what your point is? I know GTA6 is being made, but Rockstar's main focus is obviously GTA online these days.

Plus GTA6 is bound to have its own online mode. Shifting to GTA6 doesn't mean that the focus is on a campaign.

Rockstar was already ignoring RD2O, except to make it harder to earn the real life currency (gold nuggets) in-game.

I have yet to start this game (but was thinking about starting it soon). Could you elaborate on what you mean? Are you worried about servers shutting down, or does this news suggest that earning the online achievements will become more difficult?
I can't speak for the other person but rdo was never a priority for rockstar, so this isn't a surprise especially since they haven't done anything substantial for it in a year. It also wouldn't surprise me that if the servers get shut down, I don't think that they will anytime soon though. In regards to the achievements they aren't difficult especially if you get people to specifically help you with achievements, and most of the online achievements are things you can do by yourself.

I'm still surprised that the never launched a single player DLC for RDR2.
You really thought they would with that after ditching all plans for it in GTA? Of course they were going to copy and paste their billion dollar a year template into RDR. Whoever thought that was a good idea is likely no longer with the company as a good chunk of the spenders in GTA couldn't give a fuck about an old west game and were never gonna buy RDR and the smaller player base was never gonna grow with another obvious cash grab. They realized really early on that it was never going to take off and moved resources years ago.

Borderline criminal the way RD2O was abandoned by RockStar. Very disappointed.
You mean like how they abandoned SP DLC for GTAO? RockStar is a shell of what it was a decade ago thanks to GTAOs "success" and likely won't ever turn back

How many kids in this post, it doesn't surprise me, people don't grow up, rockstar has adapted to the game market but continues to release amazing SP experiences, red dead 2 was probably her best SP game and there's so much crying in this post because she doesn't makes single player dlcs like she used to, leave it to cry when she releases a game with a mediocre story like ubisoft does every year.

I had a lot of fun just roaming around doing whatever I wanted in RDO, but after getting to level 50, there really isn't much left. Spending a hundred hours in the detailed environment of one of the best looking games of this generation is great, but you gotta move on eventually.

Not sure I'd move on to GTA, but hey, it's more popular I guess.

Adorable that they announce this now as if it's only just happening now, after not releasing any content for a year. They clearly just don't want to admit they had already stopped.
This. Not even any pass content to do since last Halloween. Me and my buds would still hop in to do pass stuff and just chat. But we haven't touch it since then. they killed the game back then.

Even though I'm happy with the changes they are making to GTAO, I'm still sad to see them just abandoning RDO as it had so much potential for creating an online environment set in the old wst but instead of that they just wasted the golden opportunity so that they could milk GTAO some more

It's an absolute crime that we didn't get an Undead Nightmare 2 for this game.

Still disappointed they never released a DLC with more achievements. Really enjoyed maxing this game out and really wanted to do more

Lmao, you think they're ditching Red Dead Online for GTA single player? If you think GTA single player brings in more money than GTA Online I have some bad news for you. Lets face it, GTA6 story is going to be an addon to the online mode.

I love R* games but after no single player DLC for GTA5 I never held any hope for any for RDR2. Just enjoyed the game to it's fullest and moved on. It's just a shame there's such a big gap between the games as for me, they are some of the best games ever. Being greedy, I would love 1 a year!
  • Posted on 10 July 22 at 13:01
So when can we expect RDO to go free to play? It doesn't feel all that long ago since RDR2 came out.

I wish Rockstar would just focus on the single player experience as we didn't get any expansion on both GTAV and RDR2 which is just a shame.

Nowhere in this article is it stated that they are focusing on GTA online and thus dropping RDR2 multiplayer content development. What they ARE talking about is the next entry -> GTA 6. Whether it's an online or the single-player portion of it is up to debate.

Well, Red Dead Redemption 1 servers are still online but you never know. The online has never been very popular and with this news less and less people will be playing. I definitely suggest you get into the game asap, it’s worth it. Though you may be relying on boosting sessions in the near future for the online chevs.

I really enjoyed RDR2 once I got back into it. I will say I do see the side of the slow pace, but man it is one of the prettiest video games out there. I am blown away at the level of detail in that game

They should just sell rdr online
