Valhalla was a decent game with far, FAR too much fluff, and a lack of meaningful direction. There are some very nice, well-written moments, probably some of the best of the recent games, but there is so much filler, so much pointless busywork.

It's a decent 30 hour game stretched to 100 hours. I'm sure anyone that's played it would agree that half, maybe more of the regional stories have incredibly little bearing on the main story. I hope they learned from it that more content isn't always better. I'm hopeful for Mirage's smaller scope, but I'm sure no matter how well it sells, they'll go back to big, 100+ hour RPGs with little bearing on actual Assassin stuff and excessive filler.
This describes a good portion of Ubisoft games since the open world madness began with AC1. Don't forget how long it took in AC1 to get all those damn flags haha, or the Far Cry 2 diamonds. They've always made their games bloated with collectibles, but it's just more in a small area so you're constantly collecting.

To their credit, their games are usually stellar and that gameplay burdens the 100% laundry list haha

I played Origins and Odyssey, however to me they are not Assassin's Creed, that's why I keep playing Brotherhood (my favorite) and Revelation (X360), The Ezio Collection (just completed ACII, already completed on X360), Liberation HD, then I'll continue ACIII (X360 and Remastered) and start Rogue (X360 and remastered) and also Liberation remastered... and maybe I'll replay and get a few more achievements with Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate. I was hoping they would come back to the series root, with actual stealth gameplay over action rpg, sadly they won't... and I just will keep playing the old ones.
You’ll be happy to hear that mirage, which is coming out this year, is a return to the series’ roots.

Only thousands? Your losing my interest.

I just want this game to come out so Valhalla gets better discounts.

Don't care how big or bloated with content it is, there has to be a new game +. I'm only doing a 100+ hour game once, and the next time, I'm blasting through it in 20 with all the cool shit I unlocked. This should be REQUIRED of all games of this type, because I honestly don't even feel like starting Valhalla without it.
    State of the badass art.

I'd be fine with them alternating back & forth between the stealth/action combo & more pure stealth driven game types. As long as they cut down a bit on busy work & instead focus on polish over bloat in the action leaning games.

"Learning from the past" wouldn't be an issue if Ubi and others just LISTENED TO THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THEIR PRODUCTS instead of getting all mightier than thou about everything. I don't fault them for trying something new, but listen to the feedback from gamers who play your games, not investors who are blinded by profit or anyone else who's interest in their product solely stems from their gripes with society. These companies act like the key to success is a big secret, when all they gotta do is what people who actually purchase their products want. They need us more than we need them, they gotta get off their expensive thrones and start listening, simple as that.
I'm pretty sure this new trilogy has been a massive success for them.

Commercially, yes. Mainly because of the existing fanbase, but the more massive the games get the less those fans are returning from what I'm seeing. With the death of Miles and the new direction the storyline went, they really strayed pretty far from what made them great. Don't get me wrong, I loved Origins and Odyssee and the lore for what it was, but not for the same reasons I loved the earlier assassins, started loving Valhalla then just got overwhelmed when I hit the 200 hour mark and had half the game left.

I will say the fact that they are doing two types of games for both sets of fans is amazing, and most of the ire in my comment is directed towards the industry as a whole as it currently is. But Ubi does like to toot its own horn and disregard the fans more often than not.
I'm just a guy, staring at each new Rockstar update, asking it to be single player DLC...

So are we talking updated for a modern audience or losing millions by stripping microtransactions?

I think its good idea from Ubisoft to have two kind of AC games, ones for those who have liked the open world/RPG elements of Origins, Odyssey and Vanhalla and then every second game should be more traditional AC games for those who want to see more parkour and traditional AC game desing. That way the series would also not become as repetitive and able to please larger group of players.

I still think that after so many years of repeating the same formula, the way Origins changed things was very much needed, no matter what some AC fans say...and you can tell how majority of the gamers agreed on that based on game sales.

But either way its great if AC games can please both group of players and if there is bigger variety between the games.

Personally Ive only tested Odyssey from these newer games and while its beautiful and fun to explore, with big open world games there is always the danger thats its filled with boring, meaningless, repetitive content like apparently especially Valhalla was. And these indeed are very far from original AC formula to the point they feel more like spinoff series so its good to have both the new and the old design in the future representes in AC games

Everytime Assassin's Creed is discussed I see all the 'hate', but honestly I really enjoyed all the games so far. Odyssey was a bit too large, but Valhalla really did a lot of things right. We will see what the future brings.

Ii thought assassin's creed origins was ok for stealth. But yeah as much as I love Valhalla it sucks at stealth. Even a try at assassinating, and right on the other side of England they could see you

Origins was a bigger old school AC game any who think different are just wrong. Now Odyssey is a giant pile of crap that never should have been made. Valhalla should have been more like Origins i.e. no picking character and no dialogue options that both break the games story and the lore of AC since an animus cant do that.

Can I contest this? I just finished Origins recently and it really, really isn't like old AC games. The controls are totally different, the pacing is totally different, late in the game, the focus on the "supernatural" and false realities is totally different.

The story still had the heart of the franchise, but the game felt more like Far Cry 3 in the desert with a sword.
    State of the badass art.

The clue is in the title... Assassin. While being an assassin is a thing it's not really the focus it was back in, say, ACII. What with Eivor legging it into a village, blowing her horn, and having a massive street brawl. Which was actually necessary to enable you to get the loot.

To be fair, hooning around in a big ship and battling it out on the open seas wasn't exactly Assassiny either, but it was bloody good fun.

Don't get me wrong, Vallhalla is a great fun game. Though it doesn't exactly shout Assassin.

I hope Red will hark back to the proper stealth assassin gameplay we expect from an Assassin's Creed game.
    Would you kindly...

The newer games are separate in my mind. They are great action/adventure games, but the older games are true assassin creed. I like what I am hearing about mirage

This is the first I'm hearing of AC Red, and I'm a little disappointed that no more has been said about AC Legion the supposed Open World Height of the Roman Empire AC game I have been waiting for for years that was rumored to be in the works before Valhalla was announced. I had assumed it would be the sequel to Valhalla and now it appears to have just disappeared.
