The best Xbox horror games

As a fan of horror games I can also recommend:
    - Resident Evil 4 and 7 Biohazard (But Resident Evil 2 Remake is in my opinion the scariest)
    - Blair Witch
    - Outlast 2 (1st Outlast is also cool but may be a little bit monotonous for some)
    - The Evil Withn 2
    - Little Nightmare (Recommend to by with all DLCs)
    - The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, Little Hope and Hause of Ashes (Coop Avaible)
    - Remothered Broken Porcelain and Tormented Fathers
    - Call of Cthulhu
    - Black Mirror
    - Silent Hill Homecoming and Downpour
NOT Typical horrors but might be worth check wink
    - We Happy Few
    - Bioshock 1, 2, and Infinite
    - The Walking Dead (Season: 1 and 2 + Final Season and TNF)
    - Murdered Soul Suspect

Perfect moment to point out that TA is massively missing a generic “horror tag”. So many games get missed out and go under the radar because of the lack of one.

At the moment we only have “action horror” and “survival horror” and not all horror games match these. Case in point, Layers of Fear. That lacks any sort of horror tag but it’s been included in this list.

Layers of fear was truly disappointing.

Am I the only one in the world who thought that Left 4 Dead was horribly overrated? I played it for a week and never picked it up again.

Maybe I just want games that work on innovative AI instead of Tower Defense in first-person.
I only found it fun playing split screen co-op. Once my wife was bored of playing it with me, (which happened relatively quickly), I lost interest as well.
It's not really a single player game. Left 4 Dead 2 is way better in every way though, but the idea is still about the same.
Some of my favorite co-op experiences ever came from it growing up.

I guess it shows that everyone's experiences can differ. I only played Left 4 Dead multiplayer, whereas my personal best co-op experiences came from the first Halo, which was most definitely meant to be a single player game.
I was born to take it easy.

Halo also has some of the best co-op experiences. At this point, it's hard for me to even think of it as a single player game lmao

Conspicuous by its absence is this month's TA Playlist game - Costume Quest wink

This is a game with a pure Halloween theme that you can easily play from start to finish on Halloween.

Alien Isolation is a fantastic 10 hour game, but lasts close to 20 because it really does not know when to end.

There are a lot of horror games on this site that are listed as "Adventure" or "Action-Adventure" unfortunately. The genre tag is great for leaderboards and finding new games, I think a reassessment of the genre for these games would be great.

Horror is a staple genre in video games, it should have it's genre recognized independently here on TA
The problem with T/A' genre classification is that it tries to describe both theme and gameplay with one label. Themes: science fiction, horror, fantasy, sports, western, gangster, etc. Gameplay: action, first-person shooter, strategy, stealth, platforming, etc. Trying to sort out all of the gameplay styles into succinct labels that can be applied consistently will always be hard, but it's always seemed to me that a game's theme can be spotted quite easily, and often that's what matters more to a gamer. I will play horror-themed games in a lot of different gameplay genres, but will avoid fantasy-themed games in those exact same genres.
Games aren't "backwards compatible"; consoles are. Games are _compatible_ with consoles. Also, I complete games.

Horror spoofs or parodies have always been part of the horror literary genre. It’s not surprising the gaming industry would also embrace them.

Playing through RE2 and Silent Hill 2. Incredible atmosphere in those games. It’s a shame that the Shadowman Remaster isn’t out on Xbox yet as I’d be playing the heck out of that again. Though I think Alien Isolation is a masterpiece in tension and stealth horror.

Definitely liking the P.T vibes of Visage. And I wish they made a 3rd Condemned game already.

You should have mention Outlast 2 and Resident Evil, Tom. Two of the best if not the best horror-games I have played. And I have played it all.

I'd have RE7 over 2 in terms of pure horror(even Re1 above as well.) and Dead Space 1 over 2 for the same reason.
