The issue with old content is a sale wouldn't make a difference. For example how many more people would buy the TR Legend DLC if it was half off? It is a 2006 game. The few full price sales will make more money than two more at half price. With that said there is the possibility of a big sale on last week. There is really no reason to do it before.
Maybe they could actually put a cap on copies and have a while stocks last sale lol. It all does seem a shame for the preservation of titles, but we have already lost a lot from the digital store. And from the current gen store of course!
I have to wonder what legally MS can even still put on sale. They have to have the publisher's permission(Though I guess technically it is the publishers that put what they publish on sale not MS itself)to put something on sale don't they? Quite a few Xbox 360 publishers may not even exist anymore.
Yup. MS can "invite" publishers to a sale, but can't do anything without approval. I think I read a case from an indie dev where the reverse was also true.
For the cases where the publisher doesn't exist, the rights must belong to someone. Who gets the profits? It must go somewhere lol
At the same time, I agree with the simple business principle that it likely isn't worth putting those titles on sale, especially if getting the approval has extra obstacles. Crying "corporate greed" is a toys out the pram mentality. They're not a charity ffs and there is a whole spectrum of actions between that and abusing one's position in the market
