Can’t we have it all? Epic single player campaign. 5+ Teasingly spaced story DLC’s. And an ever present grandiose Online.

So they plan on selling us an incomplete game and charging extra to buy the full story. Big pass for me.

Yes. Like every other DLC planned franchise. It's a winning formula that works for me. It's like a second little nugget to go back to, when you're ready for just a little bit more story, fun, action.

I'd prefer not to have story DLC. Rockstar is one of the best story tellers in the business. I'd like a tightly crafted plot with beginning, middle, and grand finale. In other words, no anti-climactic content bolted on to reduce the impact of a satisfying conclusion. And, please, if there is to be a GTA 6 Online, publish it as a separate game.

They did it well with IV, I doubt around this time 14 years ago people foresaw us playing as 'that Lost MC guy we met a few times' or 'that random guy that messes up the deal in Museum Piece' and then showing how often they ventured into each other's lives usually without them realising (Niko kidnapping Gracie which resulted in Luis following Packie, Johnny being the one that kidnapped Roman for Dimitri, Luis being the one that kills Niko's biggest worry in Bulgarin etc).

Usually I'd say 'I think' before saying something like this but not here, those days of Rockstar are long gone, we'll either get nothing or like you mention if we do then some form of bait will likely be woven into the story.

Sadly, I think you’re right. To use a hyperbole, it’s like Shakespeare deciding not to write Hamlet because there was more money in ad slogans. Games are popular culture—not Shakespeare. Rockstar will probably follow the money.

The old Rockstar, though, had character. When it came time to create a sequel for GTA II, it could have used the old template and been guaranteed to rake in gobs of money.

Instead, Rockstar took a huge risk and invested an obscene amount of money to pattern GTA III after Shenmue. The odds were that GTA III, like Shenmue, would be critically acclaimed but would lose money. Fortunately, the stars were aligned in Rockstar’s favor & the game hit the mother lode.

It would be nice if Rockstar could remember what it once was. Rockstar is one of a handful of studios that has the potential to deliver a groundbreaking game. Any hack can peddle shark cards. Rockstar should outsource its MP online money-making shenanigans to one or more of the very capable studios out there and devote its energies to creating the next killer game.
