Good thing I bought this when it was on sale last week. Now I can finish it on my leisure.
Don’t let racism win, finish it now 😁😁👌

Well this is a bit of a surprise, I swear that Microsoft owns the rights to this game?
Was going to use this game for Leap Frog later down the line as well. Real shame to see this going.

Thought the game was okay, just more of a wasted potential of a pretty good concept. Hope Compulsion Games could work on it a bit for another game maybe, who knows.

I enjoyed this game but I feel like it was trying to do too much to appease Kickstarter demands, and as a result ended up being quite a mess. Like I don't think it really needed procedural generation, survival mechanics and a crafting system. shock

Anyway, since Xbox are the parent company of Compulsion it might just get re-added to Game Pass anyway.

Really liked this one actually. Great world building but pretty mid gameplay

Don’t really care for this after all the negativity it received, but the fact that XB owns it (sort of?) is a bit concerning for other games.

Huge redflag . The only other time a first party game was taken off had to do with music license agreements. Really want Xbox to comment why this is the case .

I didn't get on with this game at all. I wish we could remove games with 1 achievement from our tag.
Why don't you try games on a secondary account?

I was under that impression also...strange that it is leaving at all. However, I am more interested in what Compulsion are working on now. I may be mistaken but wasn't there talk of their next title being some sort of horror/fantasy game set in the "deep south" of America. Sounds cool!
    I hope for a Contrast 2...

GearBox / Embracer owns the publishing rights.
Microsoft had to pay Gearbox to get it on Game Pass.

This is a very strange case. Even if it's not published by Xbox Game Studios, the IP is owned by them now after Compulsion Games' acquisition.

Like Wasteland 3 and The Outer Worlds are published by different companies (Deep Silver, Private Division) and IPs are owned by Microsoft, but the games are still here and probably will be always available on Game Pass.

In my opinion, Microsoft should somehow buy back publishing rights in the past and secure themselves for any situations, like this one for example. And if they would have publishing rights, they could re-release We Happy Few on Xbox Series X|S and PC with all DLCs included already under Xbox Game Studios.

Like they did with Double Fine and Psychonauts 2 (I know that they did this 2 years before it was released). They acquired full publishing rights from Starbreeze Studios for $13.2 million.

I know that all those deals are not that easy and it doesn't work just like that, but I'm talking hypothetically.

Also, there is some strange situation with some „legacy” games of some acquired studios.

Contrast (Compulsion Games) joined Game Pass in February 2021, more than 2 years after acquisition and it doesn't support Xbox achievements on PC and also it doesn't support Xbox Play Anywhere (separate release)
RAD (Double Fine / BANDAI NAMCO) is still not available on Game Pass, but… it was available on PlayStation Now (October 2020 – June 2021)
MASSIVE CHALICE (Double Fine) was given through Games with Gold, but never added to Game Pass.
Broken Age (Double Fine) is like Contrast – joined Game Pass in December 2021, more than 2 years after acquisition and it doesn't support Xbox achievements on PC and also it doesn't support Xbox Play Anywhere (separate release)
Hunted: The Demon's Forge (inXile / Bethesda Softworks) after finalizing ZeniMax acquisition and extending backwards compatibility library it wasn't added on the list of supported games
Perhaps Gearbox didn’t sell the publishing rights of this game to MS? So MS cannot put it like other first party games on GP kinda forever? Or simply the game’s got contracts on other platforms that prevents MS from acquiring it like PlayStation? Maybe MS would kindly buy back the publishing right of it after the game finishes whatever service it committed to, making it a return to GP.

The games you mentioned are kinda old, and their genres probably didn’t or failed to attract tons of players so the cost performance efficiency wasn’t good enough for MS to re-release them.

Recent GP games show an increasing trend of supporting Play Anywhere, but with a cost of losing PC achievement list stack. However, still some games don’t support Play Anywhere, as they should be supposed to be, this is probably because of the technical limits from individual devs.

Obviously a single week isn’t long enough to complete such a 40-50 hours completion game, if anyone likes it I recommend to buying its full DLCs bundle from sales. It costs a bunch of money like around $15 to $20 instead you can play other newer games on GP, increasing your GP efficiency. To make your wanted games appear in sales more frequently, I believe the trick is to simply go to MS store on your Xbox, search for the games you want and then add to Wishlists and wait.

Restarted this twice but just kept giving up with it hoping to go back one day. Something just didn’t click. Still abit gutted it’s leaving though.

    Dear Microsoft It's your game why r u doing this ? 😭

I loved this game and loved Arthur and Sally's relationship and the difference in the way they play, I remember taking Arthur out of town but I didn't complete Sally's missions 💔

Will they replace it with one version that contains all versions such as (Dishonored) (GTA) etc..?
    I don't think so, but I hope

Micro$oft said they would always give ample notice before a title leaves Game Pass. I hope they don't think 5 days is enough notice.......angryangry

Yup. I wonder why they are taking it off GamePass.
Wild guess, but these things are usually due to licencing, and the game was added before the sale. It could simple be that the version they have on there is subject to external licences, and a different version with different licences will be added back later. It's dumb, but such is the way of licenced media.

The other option mentioned by others is that while MS own the devs, they don't own the IP. Again, there's a mass of paperwork that will confirm or deny the idea, but it's possible that the devs didn't own the IP and therefore MS didn't buy it when they bought the studio. Such is the way of IP and licencing, they're not meant to make sense to anyone but the lawyers billing the hours.

It's not a first party title. It's published by Gearbox, not Microsoft.

5 days notice is a bit strange also, not enough time for me to finish this. Was hoping to get back after finishing Wildlands
