Rockstar has made its own mini Xbox Game Pass with GTA+

Don't understand how this concept made it to production for Rockstar. Can't imagine this enticing someone to get the subscription who doesn't already use it for GTA:O

I'm still hesitant on what to do - whether to sell or not my original copy of the "GTA DOUBLE PACK" for the original XBOX (bought in 2003).

Two people asked me and I was, you know, not so sure..
No offence, but you’d be a complete idiot to sell that.
Those versions are still going to be superior to the defective edition.
I still have my original* copies of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas for PS2 and I’d NEVER get rid of them.

*I actually traded in my original, original copies of 3 and VC in 2003, but I bought them again leading up to the release of SA.
I’ve since looked into it and made sure that the copies of 3 and VC are pretty much launch day copies, because later versions had certain things removed.
You are absolutely right: that's what everyone told me.
The Original XBOX versions, played on the Original XBOX (not the 360, through backward-compatibility), are still superior to the remasters.
However, what surprised me is that this guy (a collector) said he would offer the same amount of price I paid back then (that is, 100 Euros for all the 3)... and I didn't expect that.
I thought that, after the remasters, they were actually worthless.
I recently found out that I had literal Magic The Gathering commons from 15 years ago that went for $10 a pop (I sold that crap so fast). Given what people pay for classic cars (and not even ones in collector shape, like beat to hell daily drivers) I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised but, yeah, people will often pay ridiculous cash for old stuff if there’s not enough of it easily accessible. In reality there’s probably disks like yours in 10s of thousands of basements, but the trick is they’re not easy to find and buy, so yours are worth a lot.

One tip is to double check they’re not worth even more than this fellow is willing to pay on the open market and don’t wait around worrying you might want to keep them, stuff like this is usually dependent on a hype cycle that doesn’t last. As soon as the disastrous remasters are old news there will be fewer interested buyers. If you’re not playing them right this second: sell them.

But grats, nice windfall there. Most geek stuff is worthless years later, very few things retain or gain value so buy something nice with your good luck😉
To me there’s infinitely more value in owning these games than selling them.
I love the old GTA games. I have great memories of sitting on my bedroom floor in front of my old 14” TV back in 2001 playing GTA 3 all day.
It was like nothing I’d played before at that point.
I still have a TV that takes SCART, composite and component cables, and I still have a PS2, so playing those older titles is still possible for me.

If you're the kind of person that actually hooks up old consoles and plays them once or twice a year, knock yourself out. Most people only want to believe that they’re that sort of person and should sell stuff like that to people of either group and use the money for something immediately valuable or for savings.

Same thing is happening to Game Pass that happened to Netflix. GTA+, Ubisoft+, EA Play, etc. Everyone is going to have their own subscription they want you to pay for by the time the next console generation drops. Not allowed to actually own anything anymore.
Except EA Play was around long before Game Pass. Unlike EA Play and Ubisoft+, Game Pass is mainly a try before you buy service. If you like a game and want to keep playing it you have to buy it when it leaves Game Pass. So you will still own your games :)

The games are being added to GTA+ for free (yes, GwG was free) and the main reason they are doing this is so some people buy the games when they leave. Sure, some people who don’t play GTA will pay $6 for GTA+ just to play the free games, just like some people paid for XBL Gold but never played online.

Hey man, I feel ya. I have had some honest and brutal conversations with myself about reality vs. my delusions around this kind of stuff. I'd say my life is better having dealt wifh some of my packrat tendencies. There’s no reason to go all Marie Kondo on all your stuff, but at some point you have to be honest about it and, hopefully, unload some of it for cash onto those that aren't😂

I even do hook up a few consoles from time to time, but not often enough to sit on something extremely valuable that I probably am not going to touch for another 5-10 years.

too many game companies now thinking they are going to be the new netflix of gaming, that is xbox game pass and all you are doing is pissing off consumers with greed. No one wants to subscribe to a dozen different game pass like services
If only subscription services were optional...
Subscription service based games can compromise on quality, making them bad for the whole industry.

I agree, keep those original games. They are only going to be harder to get back later down the line.

Damn dude, brutal truth. I have an office room that's largely dedicated to displaying old games and hardware and I try to convince myself that I'll hook them up and play them but it doesn't happen nearly as often as I'd like it to. At least everything lined up on shelves looks cool as hell but I hate to admit I might be better off just selling it all while it has some value.
Already made the very hard decision to sell off my large collection of valuable toys recently because they weren't benefitting anybody just sat in crates in my cupboard but selling off my games would be a next level choice.
Remember when RoboCop shot that dude in the dick?

I thought I'd do that, then I realised that I don't actually want or have the time to play the old games. They are best left where they belong (for me anyway), as nostalgia. New games is where it's at, old games have been played.

I sell my existing console to fund my next console and usually a few games discs to sweeten the deal. And digital is fine for me. Once I've finished with a game I ain't going back.

Gets me money, frees up space and clutter and I stick to the latest goodies from studios. To be fair I have a very large collection of bluray and 4K movies and a Marvel and DC Omnibus collection coming out of my ears.

    Each to their own though.
    Would you kindly...

It was hard enough looking up the details of which pressings are close to day one copies and how to check your copies, and then getting hold of those versions.

I believe I have a day one/first pressing Vice City, and pretty much the same with GTA 3.

I was a complete tear for trading them in in the first place.
Same with my original copy of Silent Hill 2.
My copy was mint and came with some post cards.
The copy I bought from eBay a couple of years later wasn’t in as good a condition and didn’t have the post cards.

Around the same time I traded GTA3, VC and Silent Hill 2 I also traded in my original copies of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Devil May Cry.
    Another decision I regret.

I don’t get to play these older games as much as I’d like to, but having them and knowing I can play them is better than not having them and only having the option of remasters or ports.
  • Posted on 23 September 23 at 11:13
I'm rather surprised at the complete downer put on this in the comments, I have no interest in GTAO but being able to play these has made me interested, I would only be playing these shitty versions of 3 + Vice City to 1000G them then be cancelling the subscription.

Unless you took a ridiculous amount of time to do that it will work out much cheaper than buying the trilogy even at sale price.

why on earth would Rockstar need to rotate their own games in and out of their own service. That would be like Halos rotating in and out of GP

    Why, is the obvious question.

But likely gonna make them some money.

Why becomes why not, if they're not hurting anybody.
