I'm shocked! Shocked I say! A game pub c-suiter doesnt understand his own business OR the product he's talking up! Who could have seen this coming?

Strong should have taken the blue pill vibes from some of these execs lately.

Well I'm sure it can't be worse than hearing that NPC in V saying 'fuck me in the ass' for the 3 millionth time.

AI might not be as big a problem currently, but who is to say that I won't become faster and cheaper to use than voice actors or whatever.
The issue isn't about how developers are going to use it to advance the medium, but how inevitably they're going to abuse it.

We don’t know if gta6 is a thing yet do we? Pretty sure they said they’d unveil the next grand theft auto game in December. No mention of it being 6.

Yes because all the algorithmically generated worlds are so interesting why wouldn’t the characters be too 🙄

Depending on the AI model used, it'll be better than most video game writers.

Make the online section of the game as mmo, give jobs to people act as an NPC. Every time player leaves, fill the lobby or pre determine players with jobs to fill == profit. Also balance the pay with more required jobs. I'm not saying every part of the game should be like that, but it would be quite interesting to give jobs to players as police, firefighters, taxi driver, restaurant server etc. Also give consequences to players. Then you don't need to depend on AI or wait 20 seconds to get a reply from AI. There are many more interesting concepts compared to primitive chatbot in my opinion.

That’s what I look for in a video game. A job.

Umm. Never mind. Just realised I’ve been playing Hardspace shipbreaker lately.

To think it’s more about having a meaningful conversation with the drug dealer before getting out the baseball bat.

There already is a pretty amazing proof of concept with Gen AI NPCs based on the Matrix Awakens UE5 tech demo: https://youtu.be/4sCWf2VGdfc

It does make NPCs more interesting, but I am not sure if everyone will feel comfortable with that. In my opinion it also kind of ruins those police chasing rampage runs that people love to do if now NPCs react in a more meaningful way. And how will it feel if you start a conversation with an NPC stripper in the strip club (like in GTA4)?

I mean, it's just stealing from everyone else, so I don't know how that's possible.

Also, video game writing is incredibly difficult and predictive text can barely handle the fact that I don't want to say Tyr instead of The.

Agreed! AI, right now, by definition cannot come up with original content because it just searches the web/databases and that's how it 'creates'. Of course people are inspired by other works but AI doesn't have intent, it just creates based on what you input. A commissioned piece by an artist, even if you tell them what you want, is still an original piece of art.
Also, video game writing is not just dialogue, there's so much more to it than that. I also think we sometimes get distracted by the awful dialogue in, especially some of the recent triple A releases (cough.. cough Forspoken.. Saint's Row) and forget about the incredibly written games because these examples are so bad.

No disrespect and I don't mean to argue, but if I look at and observe every Picasso painting ever, then based off my own observations, make a Picasso-esque recreation, this would not be stealing, correct? How do you figure it is different for AI? Don't they recreate based off existing works in the same way we do?

You are right. If you looked at a lot of Picasso paintings and were to make a painting inspired by it, it would not be stealing. The difference here (at least to a lot of experts), is the question of intent and that AI can't think for itself and therefore cannot create. It's really convoluted and I think we're a long way off from defining it properly.
The biggest problem I have with it, is of the potential loss of jobs as well as people lying about AI created content being something they made.
