Best Xbox open world games: Epic worlds to explore

I was concerned Cyberpunk wouldn't be on the list, glad it is!

I would argue it is as good as Witcher III but I also know that's not a popular opinion. Maybe I'll change my mind when I played the DLC after finishing Cyberpunk.

Outside of GTA, almost every game on this list is an RPG.

I remember fondly of open world crime games like Saints Row and Scarface, now they're a dying breed. It's insane to me.

I completed MGSV about 4 times with 100% achievements since it came out (secondary profiles). I would like someday any video game company to release a game with the same mechanics of stealth, obtaining resources and mercenaries that MGSV has.

Arkham City deserves an honourable mention
I'm glad someone brought this up. The city was packed with things to do and traversal we really fun.

Arkham Origins was the same map with an extra island but didn't have the same impact.

I understand and respect the love for Witcher III. I love it as well.

But I would put Elden Ring ahead of it. Elden Ring is *open* in a more meaningful way to me. It doesn't need extended dialogue and complex branching questlines to fill out a world. It's pure level and enemy design with a sprinkle of item text and character dialogue. In this case, I really think less is more. The impact of it all is immaculate.

Didn’t expect to think this during the first hours, but I am really immersing into Starfield at the moment. Loving the game
I guess Starfield is not an open world game, it is an open worlds game. Many of the games on the list are tiny worlds in comparison.
He's not a man. He's the holy Half-Dead who has seen the Underverse and returned with powers you can't imagine.

I know I'm biased for FromSoft games, but even so, I have never played an open world game before that was quite like Elden Ring in just how well the world was designed to encourage and reward player exploration. It blew my mind how much attention was put in every corner of it.

Like the amount of unique locations where you notice an out of sight ledge and think: "hmm I wonder if I could make that jump." You know, just for the lawls, maybe leave a message. And then you find out not only can you, but it leads to a path that leads to an item, entire other area, or a even a secret boss!

Or there's moments like the chest in limgrave or elevator that if you know you know, but if you don't, don't spoil it. Gems of a first time play.
Notice: Thank you for noticing this notice. I have noticed your noticing and shall notify those of note.

Yep, despite having few NPCs (by design), it was packed full of incredible easter eggs. I've 100%'d it too many times to count!

Valhalla was just too big, so we're giving this slot to Odyssey.
I thought Odyssey was bigger than Valhalla. :o
Valhalla's tutorial is an entire map with several small villages and a big one, plus snowy mountains you can climb and all sorts of shit. Odyssey's is a small island with a couple climbs, a cave and then you move on.

That really should tell you something.

I’ve played all 3 Witcher games on PC & am a huge fan of Andrzej Sapkowski‘s books. But, I prefer SciFi over Fantasy & also played the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG when it first came out 35 years ago.

So, perhaps it is my bias speaking but I, too, think 2077 is better than TW3. Regardless, they are both phenomenal games & I’m looking forward to CDPR’s next offering.

Witcher 3 is about as stale of an open world as it gets.

How come Like a Dragon is on this list whereas there are many other games with actual open-world? It's a good and fun game but not much of open-world.

That's what I came to say. Replaying through it now and it's so good.
Finally just played Watch_Dogs 1 and that turned out to be a pretty great game too imo

I would love to have the time to play all of these.

Also Fallout NV will always be my favourite open world game of all time. It's just too good.
