That's pretty impressive for a remake, yeah? I can't imagine they usually beat the sales of the original game.
I believe a larger number of kids have played a video game than their parents, or their grandparents or great grandparents. The population of the planet is also larger than it was 50 years ago.

If the total number of gamers is increasing each year, then it follows the number of games sold will also increase.

It’s still impressive for a remake.
Let's also not forget the stigma that survival horror games had in the early days. It wasn't until well into the 2000's that the genre started to become accepted as mainstream, which I recall was largely pioneered by Resident Evil 4. Nowadays the average gamer's interest in survival horror is much greater than in the original Playstation/N64 era.
    Shields high.

One of the best games ever released. I've put 2000+ hours just into speedrunning Claire's A scenario because the movement, gore and controls are so sublime. Capcom are living proof you don't need multiplayer live service wank to stay relevant.

Really wish Capcom would remake Code Veronica. That game has been out way before Resident Evil 4 and really needs the remake treatment.

Exactly. Code Veronica should be next, followed by Zero then RE4.

Visually, I thought it was a great remake. The whole game taking place inside one building? Lame.
Well i guess you didn't play very far, the police station was the smallest area of the game.

Heads up, if you're interested. This is on sale for $15.99 (US). Picked it up last night, after reading this article yesterday. Embarrassed to say I haven't played the original. So far, VERY nice on series x.

I was one of the fools that bought RE2 remake at full prize... deeply regretted that later after I rage-quitted game after two days. Insane difficulty and bullet-sponge like zombies completely ruined experience. Only returned after they made dlc which gave players infinite ammo. Bad game design imo. Original 1998 RE2 is still one of the best games I've ever played but this new version is really lame compared to it. I know that I have unpopular opionion since most players seem to love that remake... but I don't. Biggest disappointmed of the decade.

I agree. The 2 new remakes have lost what made the originals great, but especially RE3.
