Introducing the TrueAchievements Valentine's Relay Community Event

By Jack Watling,

It’s time to announce the next TrueAchievements community event, and it’s a brand new one… get ready to partner up for the first Valentine’s Relay event!

Welcome to the newest community event on TrueAchievements, the Valentine's Relay!

Introducing the Valentine's Relay Community Event

This event is completely different to anything we've run before. Firstly, it’s co-operative as well as competitive. You and your teammate take turns linking achievements together by playing games that share at least one genre. You both need to plan your choices wisely, as what one unlocks dictates what their partner will need to play next.

Communication and planning are important here, but ultimately what you end up playing is completely in your hands.

How does the event work?

The Valentine's Relay event focuses on linking achievements together in a unique way.

Once the event has started, one member of the pair clicks the 'Start Contest' button which will allow them to start the chain by unlocking any achievement.

To continue the chain, the other partner must then unlock an achievement from a different game that shares at least one of the genres of the previous game. Play continues with each player in the pair taking turns. The last linked achievement determines the current active genres. Chains will be scored by the number of achievements in them, followed by the number of unique genres linked.

Important notes:
- The Valentine's Relay panel on your homepage will let you know whose turn it is to unlock an achievement, and which genres will be valid.
- Achievements that are unlocked by the ‘wrong’ partner, or that are in games that do not share a genre with the previous unlock, do not count towards your chain, but will not break it.
- Achievements unlocked offline will not count towards the event.
- Each game can only be used once per pair.
- There is a Community Challenge to create a chain 10 or more achievements long.
- The Action genre typically is the sole genre on a game. Use that at your own risk!

How do I pair up with someone?

The event is based on teams of two people playing together. When you first register for the event, you'll be placed into a pool of gamers that are not currently in teams. When you are ready to pair up, you can click the Create Team button on the Valentine's Relay hub. Once you have a team, you can then invite your potential partner to join you on your Team page.

We've made a thread for people to find a partner here - we suggest you post your timezone and the genres you like to play.

When is the event running?

Registration is open now on the Valentine's Relay event page.

The event starts on Valentine's Day, Tuesday 14th of February, at 10am UTC, and runs for exactly one month, finishing at 10am UTC on Tuesday 14th March.

See how many genres you can collect as you and your partner run this relay!
