After smashing it in The Super Mario Bros. Movie last year as the King of the Koopas, Bowser — and giving us the excellent Peaches track — Jack Black is returning for some more video game fun in the live-action Minecraft movie.

Following a Deadline report earlier this week (via GameInformer), which suggested that Jack Black had been cast as Steve (the teal shirt-wearing protagonist) in the upcoming Minecraft movie, the actor and Tenacious D vocalist seemingly teased his new role in a post on Instagram showing him reading a Minecraft Basics for Dummies book. Neither Black nor the film's production companies have confirmed it, but all signs point to it being true.

According to Variety, Black joins a cast including Jason Momoa (Aquaman and Game of Thrones), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), and Emma Myers (Wednesday). The film will reportedly go into production soon and is expected to hit theatres on April 4, 2025.

While the Minecraft movie's story is still hidden away, Warner Bros. and Legendary are two of the production companies involved with the project, which is being directed by Jared Hess, who worked on 2006's Nacho Libre with Black.

Movie and TV show adaptions of popular video games are all the rage at the moment, with many projects expected to drop in the coming years, including the Borderlands movie, also starring Jack Black as Claptrap. Amazon's Fallout TV show arrives in April, The Coalition has partnered with Netflix for a Gears of War movie, and there's also a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is in the works with Anonymous Content.
