The Finals gameplay shows off Battlefield levels of destruction

By Sean Carey,

Embark, a new studio made up of ex-Battlefield developers, has now revealed The Finals, a free-to-play first-person shooter that leans heavily on environmental destruction and, quite frankly, it looks incredible.

The Finals is a free-to-play first-person shooter that's coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, and after a brief tease last month, Embark Studios has now revealed the game's first gameplay trailer.

The Finals gameplay trailer

According to the devs, The Finals has you "fight alongside your teammates in virtual arenas that you can alter, exploit, and even destroy. Build your own playstyle in this first-person shooter to win escalating tournaments and lasting fame."

Considering the footage shown in the new trailer is from a pre-alpha build of The Finals, it looks damn impressive. We see what appears to be one player using telekinesis to fling objects around, numerous different weapons and gunplay, grappling hooks, ziplines, and plenty of crumbling buildings and exciting destruction.

"Sure, you can aim and shoot, but contestants that add our carefully curated virtual environments to their arsenal are more likely to advance, so do anything you can imagine in the name of victory," Embark Studios says. "Burn arenas to the ground! Send wrecking balls crashing into your opponents! Don't just pull triggers – pull down buildings!"

Unfortunately, we don't have a release date for The Finals, but if you want to get in on the action early and you have a PC, Embark Studios is holding a closed alpha playtest on Steam. For more free games, be sure to check out our list of the best free Xbox games.

Embark Studios is also developing ARC Raiders, which has been delayed to 2023.
