Worms publisher Team17 facing layoffs

2023 has seen multiple video game companies hit with layoffs, and now reports suggest Team17 is the latest to face this, with a CEO also apparently leaving.

Update: Team17 has shared a statement with VG247, reading: "In response to the reports concerning the departure of Michael Pattison from Team17, we can confirm we have amicably parted ways with Michael. We can also confirm that we have sadly entered into a period of consultation today within Team17 Digital, with Astragon and Storytoys remaining unaffected by the restructuring plans."

Just days after we heard that Epic Games is laying off almost 900 employees, reports now suggest that Team17 is facing its own round of layoffs.

Team17 has apparently announced a "company restructure" which could result in layoffs. This is according to Eurogamer, which reports (from sources "close to the company") that around 50 roles will be affected, with much of Team17's QA team caught up in the layoffs. Eurogamer's report and that of VG247 suggest that Team17 Digital CEO Michael Pattison was also affected and will be leaving the company.

2023 has already been a tough year for the games industry. Along with the news of the Epic Games layoffs, multiple Xbox Game Studios were hit with layoffs earlier this year after Microsoft announced it would be cutting thousands of jobs. Later, EA announced it would lay off almost 800 employees. Layoffs also hit Private Division and CD Projekt Red.
