As you delve into the heart of Pandora while playing the current TA Playlist game; Borderlands, it’s time for you to vote for your TA Playlist game for October.

While October is traditionally the month for fear and spooky happenings, we have turned our back on horror and instead decided to celebrate the winners of the Great TrueAcheivement Score Challenge (Great TrueAchievements Score Challenge XII), which finished recently.

This month is going to be a first for the TA Playlist, too. The winning GTASC team consisted of four members, but the winner of the individual GTASC wasn't a part of this team. As such, we wanted to celebrate all the winners, so the Playlist this month will have five nominated games rather than four.

Each GTASC winner nominated a couple of games, and then we chose the best lineup from their selections.
Before we get into the games themselves, let us first give a big congratulations to the GTASC Winners:

Individual:
Anti Champ

Team - Beastmode

TheOnlyMatto
Triple Triad777
ElroyOMJ

Now, on to this month's nominees

Overcooked! 2

Up first is Overcooked! 2, the follow-up to Ghost Town Games’ first foray into cooking. It was released in 2018.

Overcooked! 2 was nominated by Anti Champ, who said, "Overcooked! 2/Overcooked! became such an iconic style of game that anything that is remotely close to the gameplay loop of Overcooked! is compared to it as such. With such short levels to play and layouts to learn, it is quite an enjoyable game that you can binge-play or drop in for ten minutes here and there to make progress. What's even better is that you can play online co-op and play through with a friend and progress through the story together or against each other in the versus mode. Also, the base game is currently on Xbox Game Pass."

This sequel works similarly to the original, with up to four players causing chaos in a wide variety of kitchens, with even more interactive objects and actions being introduced, such as tossing ingredients, portals, and level transitions. You’re also luckily blessed with online multiplayer, unlike the first game, so you can work with others to 3-star all those kitchens without having to have them physically in the room with you.

With a TA community rating of 4.12/5.00, Overcooked! 2 is the highest-rated nomination for this month. Just over 216,000 tracked gamers have started Overcooked! 2, with nearly 3,150 (1%) completing all 54 achievements. The TA community estimates a full completion should take 8-10 hours to complete the base game, rising to 21-27 hours when including DLC. It’s also currently included on Xbox Game Pass.

Metal: Hellsinger

Step into the shoes of The Unknown with our second nomination, Metal: Hellsinger. Developed by The Outsiders and released onto Xbox Game Pass in September 2022, this rhythm-based shooter was nominated by Triple Triad777, who said it "is a pretty quick first-person shooter with heavy music influences" and that Hellsinger "would be a great game for October since it is a lot of demon killing."

Fight through multiple levels of Hell as a lost soul, the Unknown, looking to regain her voice. She must break free of her prison with the help of her trusty talking skull, Paz, and face the overlord of hell, The Red Judge. As you travel through the Hells, fighting wave after wave of demons, you’ll unlock layers of some excellent heavy metal music, with vocals by a number of metal heavyweights, like Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Matt Heafy (Trivium) and Serj Tankain (System of a Down).

Metal: Hellsinger currently sits at a rating of 3.87/5.00 here on TA, having been started by nearly 88,500 of you, with 6% (5522) having completed its 28 achievements. On average, it should take you 6-8 hours to blast your way through Hell.
If Metal: Hellsinger wins, unlocking an achievement in either the Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One stack will count for the TA Playlist badge.

The Wandering Village

The third nominee for September is The Wandering Village Achievements, developed and published by Stray Fawn Studio, it was released in July 2023. The Wandering Village was nominated by TheOnlyMatto, who said, "I greatly enjoyed it. Much easier and less time-consuming than the one above, and it is also on Xbox Game Pass at the moment. I found it customizable, which can basically lower the difficulty on achievements you are reaching for."

In a world where mysterious plants are spreading all over the earth, emitting toxic spores as they grow, a small group of survivors seeks shelter on the back of a giant wandering creature they call 'Onbu'. You must control and build this city, forming a symbiotic (or parasitic) relationship with the wandering colossus that is your home and facing the many challenges that come with this.

The Wandering Village has a TA user rating of 3.82/5.00, with nearly 7500 tracked gamers playing, with only 37 (0%) unlocking all 17 of the game’s achievements. It’s predicted to take you 40-50 hours to complete this game, and it’s currently available on Xbox Game Pass.

Superhot

Our fourth nomination for this month is Superhot. Developed and published by the Superhot Team released back May 2016, this rather unique first-person shooter game was nominated by ElroyOMJ, who said that it’s a "very unique game that has a much deeper story to it than realized on the surface level. The bulk of the challenge comes after you beat the game with countless new ways and rules you can replay with to see if you actually mastered it and that are needed for the completion."

SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT

You’ll be hearing that phrase lots as you blast your way through a large number of red enemies as a fictionalized version of yourself after you sit at a DOS prompt and launch superhot.exe. As the game’s tagline states, time only moves when you do, so you get time to figure out what’s happening in a level and try to react to the bullets flying at you. It also has a notorious challenge mode once you complete the game to add hours more fun.

Superhot has a TA user score of 3.93 out of 5.00, with around 250,000 tracked gamers having started the game and only 2200 (1%) having completed it. It has 25 achievements in the base game, with an estimate of 20-25 hours to grab them all (although finishing all challenge modes, especially NORESTART, may take most of this time). If Superhot wins, unlocking an achievement in any version of the game will advance your TA Playlist badge count. A walkthrough by XTRA 2kofawsome is available to help.
It was previously given away as part of the Games with Gold program.

Phantom Abyss

Last but certainly not least, our final nomination for the month is Phantom Abyss. Developed by List of games developed by Team WIBY and released onto Game Pass in October 2022 as a game preview, this platforming roguelite was nominated by thearyadragon, who said, "My favorite game of this whole season. Difficulty curve is high but rewarding."

Phantom Abyss is a large asynchronous multiplayer game in which you’re an explorer armed only with a whip that allows you to traverse a variety of terrains. You’re tasked with exploring a procedurally-generated temple in order to retrieve a relic at the end. Each temple can only ever be completed once, with the ghosts of other players who have tried and failed running alongside you, allowing you to learn from their mistakes. Once you die, though, you can never reattempt the same temple, only leaving your ghost behind for others to see.

Phantom Abyss has a TA user score of 3.37 out of 5.00, with around 17,000 tracked gamers having started it. It has 18 achievements that a mere 79 people have fully unlocked (0%). Once you’re in the swing of things, this should take 25-30 hours for the full completion. It is included with Xbox Game Pass.

Once again, a huge congratulations and thank you to the winners of the GTASC and to all those who participated in it. Maybe next year, it’ll be your turn to nominate the games we choose from!

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
