We've spent September blasting psychos and hunting vaults in the wilds of Pandora in Borderlands, but now that the month is drawing to a close, it's time to announce October's TA Playlist game of the month.

The October nominees were all selected by this year's GTASC winners, which meant expanding the field to five games for this special championship month. We once again want to congratulate the winning team, Beastmode (Quickdontdie, TheOnlyMatto, Triple Triad777, and ElroyOMJ), and the individual winner, Anti Champ, for their outstanding performances. Anyone who followed this year's contest saw some monstrous amounts of TAD (TrueAchievement Difference) being scored at the end of each period. Great job to the winners, and thanks for your nominations for this month's Playlist.

This was a close poll, with the top three contenders basically running a dead heat from start to finish. At one point, we had a three-way tie going for first place! In the end, though, there can be only one winner, and we're happy to announce that the October 2023 TA Playlist Game of the Month is Superhot!
Developed and published by the Superhot Team and released back in May 2016, this rather unique first-person shooter game was nominated by ElroyOMJ, who said it's a "very unique game that has a much deeper story to it than realized on the surface level. The bulk of the challenge comes after you beat the game with countless new ways and rules you can replay with to see if you actually mastered it and that are also needed for the completion."

SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT

You'll be hearing that phrase lots as you blast your way through a large number of red enemies as a fictionalized version of yourself after you sit at a DOS prompt and launch superhot.exe. As the game's tagline states, time only moves when you do, so you get time to figure out what's happening in a level and try to react to the bullets flying at you. It also has a notorious challenge mode once you complete the game to add hours more fun.

Superhot has a TA user score of 3.93 out of 5.00, with around 250,000 tracked gamers having started the game and only 2200 (1%) having completed it. It has 25 achievements in the base game, with an estimate of 20-25 hours to grab them all (although finishing all challenge modes, especially NORESTART, may take most of this time). A walkthrough by XTRA 2kofawsome is available to help.

It was previously given away as part of the Games with Gold program.
Here's the full breakdown of the votes. Superhot took the early lead, but Overcooked! 2 and The Wandering Village stayed neck-and-neck with it all through the week, with all three games holding the lead at some point. Metal: Hellsinger stayed a close fourth and probably would have been a stronger contender if it hadn't left Game Pass just before the poll was released. Phantom Abyss was never really in contention but holds the distinction of being the very first fifth-place finisher in the history of TA Playlist! Here's the full breakdown of the votes.

There are three tracked versions of Superhot– the console version, Superhot (Windows), and Superhot VR, although that last one has one unobtainable and has been removed from the Windows Store. Still, unlocking an achievement in any of the three versions will advance your TA Playlist badge count, and you can also get credit by commenting in the Spoiler and Spoiler-free threads that will be generated on October 1. Join in the discussion on the TA Playlist Hub and go blast some red guys!

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
