Vote now for February 2023's TA Playlist game

By The TA Playlist Team,

We hope you’re having a good time exploring the solar system in this month’s TA Playlist Game, Outer Wilds, but we need you to land your ship for a moment and help us choose the featured game for next month.

February is known for love, with Valentine’s Day lurking there in the middle of the month, and while last year we took a more tongue-in-cheek approach with the 'Third Wheels' theme, this year we’re going with a more traditional take – games that are best enjoyed with a co-op partner. In addition, in honour of the second month of the year, we limited the selection to games that have a “Two” in the title… call it a “Two for Two” theme, if you will! And the nominees are…

Overcooked! 2

Up first is the food-themed party game Overcooked! 2. Developed by Ghost Town Games and Team 17 Software, this 2018 sequel took all the fun food prep of the original Overcooked, mixed in some spicy new gameplay, and seasoned it with a healthy dash of multiplayer mayhem to deliver a delicious dish for two.

Journey back to the Onion Kingdom and assemble your team of chefs in classic couch co-op or online play for up to four players. Hold on to your aprons… it’s time to save the world (again!)

Overcooked! 2 currently holds a respectable 4.18 rating out of 5.00 here on TA. Over 192,000 tracked TA users have started the game, with fewer than 3,000 gamers (around 1%) having earned the completion. The base game, with its 26 achievements, is available on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming and is estimated to take around ten hours to complete. The full completion, with a total of 54 achievements, is estimated to take 20-26 hours.

Unravel Two

The next nominee is Unravel Two, a co-op puzzle platformer developed by Coldwood Interactive and published by Electronic Arts in 2018. The game is currently available on Xbox Game Pass through EA Play.

When you cut ties to the past, new bonds form. In Unravel Two, create a Yarny of your very own, then build relationships with other Yarnys in local co-op or as a single player, fostering friendship and support as you journey together.

Unravel Two currently sits at a 3.18 out of 5.00 rating on TA, having been started by over 91,000 tracked gamers. Fewer than 250 gamers have unlocked all 28 of the game’s achievements, thanks to some tricky speedrunning achievements, but the completion is estimated to take 25-30 hours if you can overcome the challenge. Luckily we have a Walkthrough for the game from vSully to help keep you from getting too tangled up.

Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2

By far the oldest game on our list, we had to back to 2008 for the correctly-numbered Gears of War 2, developed by Epic Games and published by Xbox Game Studios.

Gears 2 begins exactly where the first game ends. As you quickly find out, the Locust weren't completely defeated by the COG's attempts in the previous game and are approaching their last stand. They decide to attempt a direct assault on the Locust in the depths of Sera, including our protagonists of Delta Squad. Will they save Humanity from the Locust?

Gears of War 2 holds a 4.30/5 community rating on TA. Over 466,000 people have played it, and just over 11,500 (2%) have completed the gruelling 79-strong achievement list. The completion is estimated to take 100-135 hours with all DLC included, although a big chunk of that time spent will go into the “Seriously 2.0” achievement… the story itself shouldn’t take nearly so long. The game, along with all DLC, is available on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming, and there is an on-site walkthrough by thirtysmooth to help you grind out those kills.

It Takes Two

It Takes Two

The final February nominee (and the only one that’s not a sequel) is It Takes Two, developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts in 2021.

Billed as a “genre-bending platform adventure,” you and a friend play as Cody and May, two humans turned into dolls by a magic spell and trapped in a fantastical world. The couple must mend their fractured relationship and learn to help and trust each other to escape from this heartfelt and hilarious story.

It Takes Two is the highest-rated game in this month’s poll, at 4.64 out of 5.00 stars according to the TA community, and it also has the highest completion rate; over 16,700 of the 138,702 tracked gamers who’ve played this game (around 12%) have gone on to unlock all 20 of the game’s achievements, which is estimated to take around 12-15 hours. Not only is the game available on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming through EA Play, but there’s also a “Friend’s Pass” available if you need an extra copy for a partner who isn’t a Game Pass subscriber (although no achievements can be earned by the person playing on the Friend’s Pass).

Are there any games that you’ve not seen nominated that you think the community should play? We’re always open to suggestions for games or themes to be featured, so leave us a comment in the TA Playlist Game Suggestion Thread.

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
