S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl developer GSC Game World has revealed how Russia's war on Ukraine has affected the Ukranian studio and its staff in an emotional developer diary.

The developer diary was shown during Xbox Games Showcase Extended, detailing what life has been like for GSC Game World employees since Russia invaded Ukraine earlier this year on February 24th.

The video shows destroyed buildings that are less than a mile from GSC Game World's offices and reveals that while some of its employees have left the country, not all were able to leave. Some have even volunteered to take up arms in defence of their country.

During the diary, we hear various voices from GSC explaining their current situations. This includes animator Oleksandr Levchenko who is from Mariupol — a city on the north coast of the Sea of Azov that suffered severe bombing from the Russians and is now controlled by Russian troops.

"I am from Mariupol," Levchenko says. "Since the start of the war, I've had no contact with my parents. It is an indescribable horrible feeling not knowing whether your loved ones are alive."

We then see some of the various developers who have volunteered to defend Ukraine before GSC Game World says, "This is just a small fraction of our story. Many of our colleagues are currently unable to publicly share their experiences due to safety concerns."
