    In a Minute Review - Beat'n Groovy

Who'da thunk that Konami, progenetor of the rhythm game genre would publish Rock Revolution and Beat'n Groovy. Not me, certainly. But such is the state of game development in Japan, it seems.

Beat'n Groovy is a superficial rhythm title that features about a dozen public domain midi-dance club songs, a couple completely uncool avatars, and spotty at best button recognition on the part of the software.

Beat'n Groovy does not control as poorly as Totemball (no, there's a special place in hell for that type of game) but I find myself completely unable to string together a combo of over 80 notes - which makes getting all the achievements impossible.

And I know what you're thinking- "Yr doing it wrongz". Maybe, but if this is doing it wrong I don't want to bother to do it right.

Avoid this title like you'd avoid Andy Dick at a party.

xs Silence sxIt just has one of the strictest timing windows I've seen. Which is what makes the Superstar achievement one of the hardest achievements out there. I'm not even exaggerating.

BahaumautI wonder if the problem revolves around the latency with HDMI + TV post-processing of the video input. Basically, what you see might be a few milliseconds behind what the 360 is sending out. Not sure how bad this can get, but it certainly can mess with the amount of timing you think you have with rhythm games.

wBRYIt has nothing to do with the tv. You just need to be absolutely perfect hitting the notes.

A subpar Pop’n Music reskin where they have the gall to charge $10 (even all this time later) for 12 songs, most of which are public domain and bad arrangements of them at that. The charts are terrible, with notes displayed that do not exist in the music while there are no notes for entire sections of music in the very same song.

Controls are rough. The layout is dumb and confusing compared to something like Rock Band Blitz.

The only redeeming quality is that there’s really cute art in the game, for the characters. Most of the ones seen in the main menu aren’t playable though.

Really wondering why they would do this instead of posting an actual Pop’N Music game. This may have cost less but I severely doubt many people bought it.
