"EDENGATE: The Edge of Life" is short indie adventure developed and published by HOOK Games. Perfect for people looking for a quick completion.

You play as a young scientist called Mia who wakes up in a hospital room of some medical science center. In a linear fashion she explores the deserted city "Edengate", hoping to solve the mystery of what happened to her and the world. Apart from Mia and a creepy ghostly child that shows up now and then, there is no one left in the city. You can find collectibles such as documents and memory objects which will give a bit of an insight about the story, the characters, but not quite a clear enough picture of what has happened. While the game has some supernatural elements, some "creepy" moments and some of the locations you visit look familiar to Resident Evil 2-3 fans, it never leans into being a horror game. Instead you encounter some fairly simple puzzles, like finding a door code in some book, moving a dumpster container to a certain spot to travers a blocked off spot. The lack of people gives the game an eerie vibe, but the linearity keeps it fairly in check.

Visually the game looks pretty good, the locations are detailed with objects scattered in each area, lighting and shadows look nice and moody. The characters though look a bit off with some bland face expressions, and the voice acting sounds fairly uninspired.

It took me personally around 2.5 hours to finish the game and unlock all the achievements, but it can be done slightly quicker if you just run through the game and don't stop to read every document. Unfortunately almost all achievements are tied to collectibles, requiring you to find and interact with every item of the game. Some are in plain sight, others are hidden (like for example a sticky note behind a generator). One achievement is missable, it requires you to interact 10 times with disinfection airlock button in chapter 2. I used a video guide from Youtube to unlock everything.

In summary, the game is not bad for a low-priced indie game. While it's not a horror game, the locations you visit are quite moody and look nice due to the decent lighting and the additional details in each area. Unfortunately the story is uninspired and forgettable due to the bland characters and the unsatisfying, missing explanation of what actually happened.
