How to unlock the No Book Left Unread achievement

  • ZSquared8080ZSquared8080
    10 Dec 2023 10 Dec 2023 27 Dec 2023
This achievement requires unlocking 7 side achievements in the Endless Archive:
    - Word Waltzer
    - Hidden Prowess
    - Ghostlight Gatherer
    - Kidding Around
    - Mind Over Magicka
    - Eye See You!
    - Pilfered Pilfer

All of these except the last one are side activities in the Endless Archive that you access through Portals to the Unknown. The last one involves killing a side enemy during mini-boss stages. Below I step through each of the achievements, and how to approach getting them.

Word Waltzer: Complete 2 quests in Destozuno's Library
In this side area, you find a librarian named Destozuno who gives you two quests (the second is given when the first one is turned in):
    - A Bookbinder's Bind: Gather 5 sheaves of pages
    - Restoring the Resurrected: Gather 7 bookbinding supplies

The pages and supplies are randomly scattered through the Endless Archive, inside non-boss stages. They will have a quest marker pointing to them. They appear a couple seconds after you arrive in the stage, and do not require fighting to access: You can maneuver around the initial cloud to check for them.

Once you've collected enough items to fulfill the quest, one of your next Portals to the Unknown will bring you back to Destozuno's Library to turn in the quest.

Hidden Prowess: Complete Theater of War 5 times
To complete this achievement, you must defeat Aramril in the Theater of War 5 times. Each time, Aramril has more abilities to increase the difficulty, but her abilities are similar to the Runemaster Xiomara world boss in Apocrypha.
    • First round: Aramril attacks and teleports throughout the stage. Pretty easy fight.
    • Second round: Everything above, plus Aramril summons tentacles (small AOEs under your feet) which hit you if you get too close. They're easy to avoid.
    • Third round: Everything above, plus Aramril summons a watcher and has a channel ability where she raises her staff in the air and fires green projectiles at you. The channel ability will drain your health quickly, and should be interrupted.
    • Fourth round: Everything above, plus Aramril now activates a crystal that will rapid fire projectiles at you. The crystal should be focused down (save ultimates for it) -- but keep an eye on Aramril's channeling ability, and interrupt it if you see it! Also, there will be larger AOEs under your feet that snare you, and you need to break free. If they snare a companion or pet, you'll see them surrounded by a green circle and unable to move. Free them with a synergy (cn_Y+cn_B).
    • Fifth round: Everything above, plus there is a second crystal in the field. They are activated one at a time. Also, Aramril now summons Mind Terrors periodically to attack you.
Ghostlight Gatherer: Complete Echoing Den 5 times
In the Echoing Den, there is a mage standing in the middle of the arena. When you approach, 1, 2, 3, 5, or 6 ghostlights will shoot out to the edge of the arena. You need to herd the ghostlights back to the mage in the center to successfully complete the challenge.

To herd ghostlights, you need to move at a slow pace. You can either partially move cn_LS to walk slowly, or take a few steps then pause. The ghostlights turn green when they're following you, but if move too quickly, they will turn blue and go back to where they started.

You are able to collect multiple ghostlights at once, and at harder difficulties you'll need to in order to clear the stage. Look for multiple lights that are close together, near a path back to the middle -- pulling both at once will speed things up. In the last round, grabbing all 6 lights together will be needed if you are playing solo.

Kidding Around: Complete Haefal's Butchery 5 times
This stage is fun, and pretty easy across all difficulties. Once you step forward, Haefal will turn you into a goat. As a goat, you can't really do anything but move and eat sweetrolls. You can run, but stamina is limited. Haefal will be chasing you and trying to kill you the whole time.

The strategy here is to keep moving forward. Don't give Haefal a chance to catch you! Keep moving until you see a sweetroll glowing, make your way to it, and eat it by pressing cn_A. Haefal launches AOEs that will snare you, and they often hit when you're eating a sweetroll. So it helps to use your stamina for a run up to the sweetroll, and then run immediately after to maintain distance from Haefal.

Your goal is to eat 3 sweetrolls, which will charge up your goat's ultimate. Haefal will go down with one ultimate hit.

Mind Over Magicka: Complete Treacherous Crossing 5 times
In this arena, you will see 6 pedestals and a long field of tentacle AOEs. There are also lanterns above you -- each lit lantern represents another chance you have after the current one.

The 6 pedestals will each remove 1-3 AOEs from the field. The first task is to figure out the order to press to clear AOEs starting from the closest to you, and then cascading all the way to the back. If you're running with another player, one player can press the pedestals while the other moves through.

If you're running solo, speed will be a factor. You should be ready with speed boosting skills, potions, and/or equipment (Ring of the Wild Hunt, Swift trait jewelry) to ensure you can press all 6 pedestals and still have enough time to run through the field. Once you use the pedestal in the back, you will have cleared the stage successfully.

Eye See You!: Complete Filer's Wing 5 times
This stage is one of the more frustrating for many players, but it is doable! As you step forward, you will be transformed into a watcher, and you're tasked with destroying rogue tomeshells that are floating around in the arena. As a watcher, you have the following abilities:

cn_X Shoots tentacles out to deal damage.
cn_Y Sends out green lights to highlight tomeshells. You'll be able to see them through walls. If you are too far from any tomeshells, nothing will happen and the ability will still be ready to use.
    cn_B Speed boost.
    cn_LB Stun a target you're facing.
cn_RB Drop an ink puddle to snare and damage enemies.

You fail if you run out of health before you destroy all the tomeshells. Since you don't have a heal, you need to avoid damage in this arena. There are three things that can damage you here:
    • Book tornadoes: These typically go around in circles, or follow a path and then fade away. If one is coming toward you, you can sometimes squeeze to the side of the hallway to let it pass without taking damage.
    • Tentacles: These appear out of dark green circles. Note you can still pass over the dark green circles without taking damage, as long as the tentacle isn't up.
    • Hushed Raveners: At higher difficulties, one or two zombies will trail behind you. Dropping ink with cn_RB is a good way to slow them down and gradually damage them.
As with Kidding Around, the strategy is to keep moving forward, and use the full width of the hallway you're in. If you hit a dead end, u-turn in the hallway (from one side to the other) rather than just backing up. Any raveners that are following you are going to stop and prepare a heavy attack, so aiming them to one side of the hallway will let you pass behind them without getting hit.

Tomeshells take one hit of cn_X to go down, but they may run if you get close. If they run past you, be careful turning around in case a husk is behind you. You can always loop around and try again.

Pilfered Pilfer: Kill Gw the Pilferer 5 times
This is the only achievement not tied to a Portal to the Unknown. On mini-boss stages, you'll occasionally see a scamp enemy called Gw the Pilferer. He runs back and forth, and then channels an ability that allows him to escape from the battle. Interrupt him, and he'll stick around for a bit longer. Kill him 5 times for this achievement.

VoadisEye See You was harder than getting Emperor
Fun fact, doing it solo gives you rooms you still need 90% of the time

ZSquared8080Eye See You was the last one that I got, and at best I can clear it going solo maybe 25% of the time? I think you get more tomeshells to kill if you are with another player.

+1, I also noticed that Portals to the Unknown favored the ones I still needed for the achievement. Which is both nice and frustrating on the hard ones.
