I've had the pleasure of testing numerous third-party Xbox controllers during my time with TrueAchievements, and so far, Nacon's Revolution X is my absolute favorite of the bunch. While the controller initially launched in an all-black colorway, with an all-white version dropping soon after, Nacon has just released a new limited edition camo variant as well, which comes in both Forest and Urban camos — just in time for the holidays. But is it worth picking up over a standard controller?

The Revolution X is a wired controller for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. This third-party controller is part of Microsoft's "designed for Xbox" scheme that lets other companies make officially recognized accessories for their consoles. It comes packed with a three-meter braided cable, four customizable paddles, toggles accessories, and weights to adapt how the controller feels in your hands, a hard-wearing storage case, and my personal favorite feature: Dolby Atmos support for wired headphones built-in, with no subscription required. It's a fantastic controller and is available on Nacon's store for $99.90 and Walmart for $74.00.

I originally wrote my Revolution X review in 2021 when the controller launched, and I'm yet to find a third-party controller to replace it as my favorite. The Dolby Atmos support is unmatched for immersive audio (though you'll need to play wired or use a compatible wireless headset like the RIG 900 MAX HX headset I reviewed earlier this year). Atmos can be customized via Dolby's app on Xbox and PC, and with the Revolution app on console and PC, you can tweak every part of the controller too.

The tech running in the Revolution X is exactly the same as the standard model, but the camo variants have new faceplates. The color schemes only change the front of the controller, however, and it would have been nice to see the camo aesthetic wrap around the entire item. It looks smart nonetheless, though, and it's certainly eye-catching. The protective case also drops the matte black style for an olive green coloring on the woodland camo variant — we're not sure if it's any different on the Urban version, but we'd assume so.

Using the app offers a ludicrous number of customization options — possibly far more than most casual players would make use of — offering you ways to remap its buttons, change the trigger sensitivity, adapt the toggle response curve, customize the audio equalizer settings, and more. You can create four different profiles, or select them from pre-created options, and then switch them on-the-go via a quick switch button on the controller. Plus, there is an RGB light surrounding the right toggle, which can be set to show a different color for each profile, so it's easy to see which one you're using.

Physically, the Revolution X comes packed with two toggle types, toggle spacers to change their height, and six weights that can be slotted into the back. 10g, 14g, and 16g pairs are included. I've found it to still be a bit too light for my tastes, but that's a very minor complaint around an otherwise excellent controller. If you're in the market for a new Xbox controller, we'd recommend checking it out.
