Despite some of the negativity surrounding this year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, it seems that players are still flocking to the shooter. Sledgehammer Games has revealed that it has set player engagement records for the new Modern Warfare trilogy and will celebrate with a double XP weekend.

In an announcement on X, Sledgehammer Games says that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, which launched on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on November 10, has already "set records with the highest engagement in the new Modern Warfare trilogy." The post also congratulates Treyarch, the developer behind Modern Warfare III's Zombies mode, for "setting a new Modern Warfare record with MW Zombies."

"Thank you so much for inspiring us and for spending so much time in this game," Sledgehammer says. "Your feedback and passion continually make us better. And thank you for playing with us — it's been a blast, and there's much more fun in store."

Sledgehammer says that more player hours have been spent in this release overall than Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare II. The Zombies mode is "the most engaging third mode in Modern Warfare history." And, most surprisingly considering it is around four hours long: "Campaign players putting in more time per player in Modern Warfare III than the previous two instalments."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III's first season will arrive on December 6, bringing with it new maps and content. Before then, Sledgehammer Games will be celebrating its new record-setting game with a Triple Feed Holiday Weekend this week, which will offer double XP, weapon XP, and Battle Pass XP.

While the game has attracted many players for its multiplayer and Zombies modes, the campaign took quite a beating from critics. In our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III review, we called it one of the worst entries into the series.
