How to unlock the Local Hero achievement

To unlock this achievement you need to keep all six citizens alive in the optional quest "Save at least 3 citizens 6/3", which is under the War of the Worlds quest line.

Once the achievement pops for completing Act 1, you will come out from the underground via a hatch, and then the War of the Worlds quest line will begin, starting with "Defeat the Robots 0/3". Once you defeat those robots, you will head down to the village square for the "What's Happening in the Village?" quest. After a short cutscene, two more quests will pop up: the aforementioned "(Optional) Save at least 3 Citizens 6/3" quest, and the "Kill the Robots 0/6" quest. To unlock the achievement, the counter for the former must still be at 6/3 when the counter for the latter reaches 6/6.

Unlike the main game, where you can open the menu and manually save the game, the DLC only has autosaves. Luckily, the game autosaves right before this cutscene. So, if you fail to keep all 6 citizens alive, your best strategy is to let the robots kill you so that you can respawn and try again. If you accidentally defeat the robots, the game will auto-save and you'll need to start a new save from scratch and complete Act 1 again to get back to this point again.

Despite playing on Easy, I struggled with this for awhile because there were two to three times as many robots in the square compared to most video clips I watched of the achievement, such as this one from The Gamer Society (no affiliation to me)

It may have been a bug, but if it happens to you too, the extra robots were blue and could not be killed. You only need to kill the red ones (look for a red eye and a red waist). Move quickly from each cluster of robots around each citizen, killing just the red ones and keeping an eye on the 6/3 citizen and 0/6 robot counters to ensure all the citizens are still alive before you kill the final robot. Once you do, the achievement should pop.

coipYes, it is bugged and spawns extra, invincible robots, but it can still be obtained. Kill the red robots and ignore the blue ones (they can't die).

AussiemarioONEI found a good way to do it If the robots double or triple spawn.
What I did was just quickly run around each of the people groups getting the robots to chase me. Then just try to kill the red ones a big banger helps.
    good luck

vegansoundIt is indeed bugged. The first time I arrived at this point, no bug at all and I could unlock the ach at first try. But I got killed by the extra robots coming right after, and when respawning, those invincible blue robots appeared and everytime I died, they were still there. So it was a nasty loop after to get the 6 survivors even if I already had the achievement.

But my solution was some kind of mix between AussiemarioONE's one (teasing the robots to make them run after you, this way they forget the civilians), and some improvisation of mine. My part was to get on one of those chariots (white and blue or white and red stripped) we see around the place, and once we're on top, all the roots (blue and red) are just below. You just have to shoot the red ones, and you should get this achievement, and be able to continue the story, as they can't hit you from down there. Just be careful when the second wave arrives with the robots able to electrofy you, even if you're above.

    Hope this helps.

coipYeah, based on everyone's experiences, I think you're on to something: it sounds like the first attempt is the easiest chance to get it, but if you fail there and need to re-try, then the invincible robots spawn, making it extremely more difficult on subsequent attempts. That's a lot of pressure for a first-attempt, but, unfortunately, this will never be patched. Perhaps the best workaround is to delete the saved data, start from scratch, and re-do Act 1 entirely (if I recall, it takes about an hour to get to that point if you know what you're doing).

DoddyLamaJust a side note, sometimes the citizens start attacking each other and they can kill one another and affect the total.

Darth Hawk CZJust got this achievement. As said before, after first failed attempt, robots double/triple spawn. It kinda broke the game for me a little, their hand animation was almost static, missing frames. What worked for me was AussiemarioONE's tip. Run around the robot groups ASAP and then deal with them. Although they kept fighting the civilans, nobody died on me.
