The semi-finals of the TrueAchievements Game of the Year 2023 tournament kick off in style, as Starfield takes on Diablo IV.
We're in the closing stages of the tournament now, and if we're honest, we could have confidently predicted three of the four semi-finalists. Starfield was huge on Xbox, and Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 have been huge everywhere, but Diablo IV is a bit of a rogue element. Not that it isn't great, but it hasn't been all over the game of the year discussions in the same way. Did it have an easy path to this spot? Maybe. It took out Ghostrunner 2, Mortal Kombat 1, and Assassin's Creed Mirage to get here, but now it faces a real juggernaut in Starfield.
Xbox's biggest exclusive of the year, Starfield handily dispatched of RoboCop: Rogue City, Hi-Fi Rush, and Star Wars Jedi Survivor to make it here, and it's the favorite to go all the way. Will we see an upset here? only one way to find out, get voting people!
At the start of this tournament, we had AAA games in the top bracket and indie and other smaller titles into a second bracket, to make sure everything had a fair chance. It's a great way to get a good discussion kicking off in the comments about this year's best Xbox games.
