The TrueAchievements Game of the Year 2023 vote is back, bringing together 32 of the best Xbox games of the past year for a single elimination tournament where you get to decide the outcome.
Today, it's a war of horror games and remakes, with Motive Studios and EA's Dead Space taking on Capcom's Resident Evil 4. Dead Space got some spectacular reviews ahead of its January launch, as did Resident Evil 4 before it arrived in March, so we have two strong contenders here. Dead Space also had an extra boost from joining Game Pass a few months ago, but that's not necessarily enough to take down a household horror name like Resi 4.
Survival horror game Resident Evil 4 sees Leon thrown into new dangers after heading to an isolated village to look for the president's daughter. The remake did a beautiful job, maintaining the excellence of the original while also adding in unexpected changes to the gameplay and story to take even veteran fans by surprise.
Dead Space, meanwhile, tells the story of engineer Isaac Clarke who sets out to repair a mining ship, only to find everyone dead and his partner missing. It too focuses on celebrating what made the original game so great while also improving the gameplay and graphics.
We've tackled this tournament by putting AAA games into the top bracket and indie and other smaller titles into a second bracket tier to try and keep things fair.
