The TrueAchievements Game of the Year 2023 vote returns once more, bringing together 32 of the best Xbox games of the past year for a single elimination tournament where you get to decide the winner.
In today's round, Capcom's ferocious fighting game Street Fighter 6 is looking to beat down Avalance Software's magical open-world game, Hogwarts Legacy. In previous rounds, Street Fighter 6 bested Amnesia: The Bunker, and Hogwarts Legacy performed Avada Kedavra on Jusant. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this matchup!
Street Fighter 6 launched back in June for Xbox Series X|S and quickly won the hearts of both critics and players with its beginner-friendly approach, excellent World Tour story mode, and compelling Drive Bar system. Despite being one of the best fighting games we've seen in a long time, we think it will struggle against the enormous Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy launched for Xbox Series X|S in February and quickly became a commercial success by selling over 12 million copies in two weeks — and that was before previous-gen versions of the game launched in May. While Hogwarts Legacy's open world was filled with detail and a real joy to explore, many criticized the repetitive combat and its lackluster RPG elements. Could these be the downfall of Hogwarts Legacy here? Probably not, but that's up to you to decide!
While the TrueAchievements Game of the Year Awards 2023 are now live, we're still running this knockout tournament as a bit of fun and as a way to get some good discussion going around some of the best Xbox games to come out this year. To keep the tournament fair, we've placed AAA games into the top bracket and indie and other smaller titles into a second bracket tier.
