The division was formed in 1941 and was initially stationed in France. In 1942 it was transferred to North Africa, where it took part in El Alamein and Kasserine Passage battles. In June 1944, it took part in the battles against the Allies in Normandy, and at the end of the war it was transferred to the Eastern Front in the area of the Oder River. The Sd.Kfz.251/1 is one of Germany's most recognizable vehicles - almost a dozen modifications for a wide variety of tasks.
