Following the launch of Cuphead's physical Xbox editions earlier this year, Studio MDHR is gearing up to roll out an Anniversary Update for its beloved 1930s cartoon-inspired run-and-gun game. Interestingly, the update will be exclusive to Xbox and Windows and will contain a "love letter" to fans with a ton of behind-the-scenes footage when it drops on Friday, September 29.

The Anniversary Update will add a Music Player, Art Gallery, and a Behind-the-Scenes video player to Cuphead's menu, featuring over 100 hi-res photos, the entire 86-track Cuphead OST, never-before-seen concept art, unused art pieces, and more. To top it all off, while browsing the menu, you'll be treated to a "never-before-heard MIDI demo track from Kris Maddigan."

Studio MDHR's co-director thanks Xbox fans for their support of Cuphead

“When it comes to the kindness and support the Xbox community has shown us all these years — all the way back to the very first teasers and snippets of Cuphead — no amount of thanks feels like enough. We really consider this update just a small token of our immense gratitude, and hope that everyone enjoys it as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together!" Studio MDHR co-director Maja Moldenhauer told Xbox Wire.

”We thought it would be fun to give this to our Xbox community as a gift on the game’s anniversary, as our Cuphead journey really started with the release on Xbox,” says Chad. “In game development, plans like that don’t always work out, but we were fortunate that all our testing and finalization for the update seemed to finish with enough time to launch on the game’s sixth birthday!”

The Anniversary Update will roll out on September 29 for all players on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows as an automatic download — it's a great reason to jump back into one of the best Xbox platformers!
